What are we looking at here??

A tornado hit east of Pampa, Tx a couple of weeks ago and we were there to catch it. Thing is, I'm not sure if the tornado is in the rotating rain that is seen on the right, or the funnel on the left, which was actually over the damaged houses. We thought we'd caught a very minor tornado in the field, and had no idea that there was another out there. The news reported damage due to winds and hail the day of....but then the next day, they reported that it was tornado damage. I didn't know the damage was less than two miles from where we'd been filming. We drove through the area last week and saw the houses that we'd seen on TV...which were less than two miles from where we were filming. I took a look at the video and can't really decide if that is a rain shaft and a funnel, or two tornadoes, or .....what?? Does rotating rain constitute a tornado? I know the funnel has to be the tornado that they're talking about on the news, it's in the right spot, and was visible for the length right length of time......ugh!

Meanwhile, we were reporting to NWS on the radio and I honestly couldn't be sure about it. You can't see a debris field....

PS Pardon my crazy movement...I'd been hit by a car while on my bike and had a sprained ankle and was trying to film while facing backward in the back seat while moving down the road. And I am still trying to work out the video editor, I don't know how to cut and splice yet.:p

Got some violent rotation there along with the nice funnels. No, rotating rian does not constitute a tornado. Wrapping (rotating) rain curtains are just in an area where a tornado could form or is. With all the precip in the area of rotation, it's hard to tell if there was debris under any of the funnel clouds that were observed. Nice catch though!

Could be a rain wrapped tornado, but I'm not positive. Still, awesome capture.

Terra, you saw the NWS survey from east of Pampa didn't you? They estimated the tornado at a half mile wide. I was also in the area, and I'm positive it was rain wrapped when it hit Pampa and Lefors. Depending on the time of your video, I can guarantee you that the tornado was wrapped in rain. Did the funnel on your video ever develop into a tornado?

OK, the NWS survey is something new to me....

The funnel looked like it did develop, as it stretched out at least 3/4 of the way to the ground...but the rain was so thick that I can't confirm....but it was right over the area of damage. I never saw the tornado that was a half mile wide and I was on that storm from the time it hit Pampa...and was filming right across hwy 60 from the house with the massive roof damage, just moments prior. Man, I missed out LOL! Jason, did you get to see it??

No, the bigger tornado was too wrapped up in rain for anyone to see it. I did see a brief tornado when I was near the prison on Hwy. 60.

I knew there had to be one in there...it looked just plain wicked. I saw the one out near the prison...there were actually two that barely qualified out there. I got them on video as well.

Unrelated, is the prison you're referring to the one that the Hoover tornado passed near on June 8, 95??

Deffinately an awesome tornado, from one of the top 10 chaser friendly tornado outbreaks of all time.

Yes, that's the same prison. That was on heck of a tornado. I think it was in 95.

Yeah, it occured right after the Pampa tornado dissipated. I've seen references to the Hoover tornado as being rated F5 all over the net. No doubt it was a violent tornado, but it wasnt rated F5.
