Well, I'm glad to report that wxworx has finally issued it's update for MobileThreatNet. I haven't been able to look over all the new updates, but mesoscale discussions, spc severe wx risk areas, and watch boxes are included.

new stuff

1) manuel storm tracks
2) Canadian Messages
3) Day one convective outlook
4) Messoscale disc

Looks like you still need to have the $100/month Responder package to get the new features. The Master Mariner and Sailor subscribers wouldn't gain anything from downloading this update, as far as I can tell.

As I mentioned before, as a current Master Mariner subscriber, the extra $50 a month that this would cost me would be much better spent on a cellular data plan. That way I'd get the same data, and much more, for the money. The Master Mariner plan is already $50/month, so an upgrade to Responder would double the cost. I'm not bashing Baron, I think WxWorx is one of the best things to happen to chasers. But those economics just don't work for me at the moment.

The "works everywhere" benefit of WxWorx is only necessary for radar, shear and warnings once you are in the final hours of a chase (closing in on a storm). Having the new data with the upgrade would be nice, but it's mostly things that you look at before an intercept (SPC outlooks, MDs, etc) that you can easily get with WIFI or cell data.

I can see the marketing strategy to encourage upgrades, but hopefully they will see fit to give loyal Master Mariner subscribers at least one or two of those features (MDs would be nice).

glad that manuel storm tracks work at any sub level :)

Tim Johnson can you make a button for the tracks ?

Yes you can add a button for manual storm tracks on master mariner, sailor etc, but I think someone said that already comes with this update (land version).?

I was never happy with the storm track feature however. You have to drag the mouse in the direction the storm is moving, and the length that you drag it with the mouse determines the plotted storm speed. Not sure how you'd know accurate storm speed without guessing....so the tracks wont be very accurate as far as WHEN the storm reaches such and such a city. It is better than nothing though I suppose, and yes its easy to add it.

I installed the update and used it today. It worked ok, but the software crashed 3 times on the chase. Has anybody else had problems with the update?

Major problems Charles. I ran it on Wed and it ran flawlessly all evening. Got the update this morning and chased today and I bet it crashed at least 20 times on me. On top of that it was popping up tornado warnings in counties that didn't even have storms. A tornado warned storm as evidenced by GRL3 kept swapping from t-storm to tornado warning.

The update definitely has some issues.

I was watching the storms in Texas this morning and had it shut down 4 times in a period of about 55 mins.

Guys I'm having the same problems too...program crashes off and on for some reason sometimes when i hit a storm track on a cell. Also I have noticed the warning problems too (t-storm warnings and tornado warnings) as previously mentioned below. Looks like they got some work to do to fix these bugs for sure....

I screwed up....

When I heard about the upgrade I decided to wait as it worried me to install a new update. However, then I heard about the mesoscale discussion and other valuable data and decided I would do it.

To make a long story short I chased on 3/28 in West Texas and had no problems with WxWorx. However, after I applied the update and chased on 3/30 the software kept crashing.

I have no one to blame but myself I guess. I knew better. On top of everything else, I have the Master Mariner package and do not have access to the features that I desired anyway (meso discussions, etc).

In addition, the new version of Wxworx disables the Winds button which was available in the previous version.

I screwed up...... I screwed up.......I screwed up :)

If you experienced crashes email your "c:\program files\mobile threat net\mobilethreatneterr.txt" file to [email protected]. Make sure you include your version number in the email or at least mention that it was the new release. This will expedite a fix.
