I know when I first signed up for ST it was a little intimidating to make post becuase of " what people would say" but I could care less what people say about my post. I have never had anybody ever say anything negative to me on this forum. There are alot of good people on here. I have learned alot on here. I haven't posted in awhile though because I have nothing to say.. But once IKE moves into the metroplex here in Dallas ( if it does ) then the post will crank out.. Hopefully a couple nado photos, if I get luck enough.

Now I think that if people are just going to have a membership here just to say they are members then do away with them. I became a member to be part of the best chase forum on the web. To read, share and enjoy each others company. I feel confident enough to share information on all the subjects here on ST, and know I can still learn alot from all the members in each of the subjects to discuss.. If your too scared to post because of a self confidence issue or because somebody saw the same thing as you, post anyway. It's cool to see how many folks saw same storm or tornado. If your too scared to share information or your forecast then so be it.. Meteorology is not a perfect science don't be scared to post your thought even. Well there is my .02 cents

I will post this I do not agree with this what so ever I have sent Tim mail and am awaiting a reply back.

I also Chase for KDFW Fox 4 in Dallas

Well here goes. First of all I am a Lurker who was inspired to join after finding out that I would not have access to this site and its information. This was followed by my computer refusing to give me access to the the forums. PANIC. So I took the time to register, and now have taken the time to post. I started watching(insert lurking) ST after I watched a tornado hit south of my town. I searched the internet for "stormtracks" and found this site. So here you go POST COUNT=1 I bet the apps for member have increased, and so have the post counts. So hats off and good tactics:)

The whole point people are missing here is you DONT have to be a ST member to lurk and read weather topics. All you lose is the Bar and grill section. If you want to post then you need membership but by this being your 1st post it shows you dont care about posting as much as reading which you wont lose so whats the argument???

Your either an active posting member who contributes to this forum or you a nonmember lurker who likes to read everybody elses posts. There is NO need to be a lurking member except to have the tag of "ST member".

I think that this thread is a good candidate for locking. Tim's post was simple and to the point: if you are a lurker, your account will be deleted on October 1st. I don't see the need for anyone to post a public plea when Tim has already made up his mind on the issue. Just my $ .02

There will be no whining from me, the decision has been made. My only complaint is while I've hardly ever contributed by posting, I have made the effort to contribute in the past--with my money!

A lot of the people with thousands of posts don't seem to be on that list.
Craig

LOL, that would be kind of funny. Probably won't happen now, but it would have been funny imo. Guessing that might award you some leeway.

FWIW, posting adds content to this site, which well, is worth something as well(on a forum!). Content gets visitors. Then all you need are things to sell and/or ads. According to the banner ad costs alone on here, one ad would pay for hosting...easily.

Agreed. To add to Justin's point, ST is a private forum, which the owner (Tim) has every right to set the rules, regulations, etc, and he is under no obligation to put his decisions up for public debate or ratification. I would think there would be a little more appreciation for the fact that Tim was good enough to give more than fair advance notice to changes he plans to make to his forum.

No need to lock the thread down. I am anxious to hear some more reasons why the "LURKERS" can't post and add more to the forum.

Bottom line...Either you lurk and read without posting, or you become a member and stop lurking and start contributing.

While we can't discuss exact numbers, 52 is far, far above the zone where a person would be considered a lurker. We're talking lower single digits, folks.

Tim

Please explain the problem with lurkers, because, that's what I'm struggling with. I have been chasing for eleven years, and have contributed to the community in many ways, just not with a lot of posts here.

Talk to us! All we ask in return for using our server's electricity and resources is interacting publically with the community here and engaging in conversation about severe weather. The exchange of information and experience has always been the founding principle of Stormtrack. Even newbies have something to contribute... the mere act of asking questions always brings out new perspectives, educates other newbies that stumble on the discussion, and gives the veterans interesting reading material.

If you don't converse, you forfeit your account. But hey, even without an account you can still read all of the weather discussions. Fair enough?

Tim

Is Mr. T going to be deleted? I'll miss him.

Is the management aware that guests cannot view attachments anywhere on this forum?
That was part of my rationale for registering.

And what's with the "I don't have time" excuse? I've seen that mentioned a time or two, what is meant by this? Nobody is that busy that they couldn't login and make a post at least once a week, there are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.. nobody is that busy that in a period of 7 days they didn't have even 5 minutes free to login and make a post.

If people log in for 5 minutes just to make a post so they don't get kicked off the list, that certainly won't help the quality of posts. Personally, I think the current arrangement is working fine. I have no problem with removing people who never post over the period of a year or more, but I am still not sure what "problem" this rule is attempting to solve.
