In black and white

I shot this just the other day while trying to shoot some daytime lightning, in North Oklahoma. I converted this to B&W in Photoshop, with a plug-in called Nik Silver Efex pro.

Nice pictures!

I should make a few of my pictyures into black and white, then I will post them up here. Just with a point and shoot Samsung.

Mike, I really like your first picture, definately looks better in black a white, it is just one of them objects I think.

I haven't played around with black and white much, but here are some of mine:

I've tried a few B&W shots while train-chasing, but there are some subjects that lend themselves to color (BNSF locomotives) and it's almost criminal to shoot them in B&W. Norfolk Southern, on the other hand...When the economy picks up and likewise train traffic, I'll make more of an effort.

Meh, I tried lol

I tried integrating some color into straight black and whites and I think it turned out halfway decent.

I definitely am intrigued by Black and White (having originally gotten into photography via B&W darkroom work).

I like a lot of this guy's (mitchdobrowner's) stuff but some of it is over-cooked (by my admittedly subjective taste) - sorta like what you'd get if you took Photomatix and turned it to 11 and then converted to B&W. Some of it has that Seriously Photomatix-ed (unrealistic) look.

Something I've been playing around with is the Invert action in Photoshop. I was resting the camera on my dash and the left side moved a bit during the lightning flash, you can see a couple of branches that appear twice:

I love shooting black and white. I think it looks better done on actual film. If done in digital, and then converted over to gray scale, some adjustments to the contrast are usually needed or else it just looks really washed out.

These are from a few years ago, so excuse the cheesy borders.

This lone black tree really did exist in the middle of all the pines...

Cool Topic, and great shots everyone!

A lot of my B&W shots come from Infrared conversions, although I do sometimes convert color to B&W. Here's a few of of my shots:
