hollingshead photos

I would hope some invited trips to New York and L.A. (free mini-vacation) for appearances on talk shows will be coming at some point.

Hey everyone! I would just like to ask each of you to be respectful of Mike's feelings towards this situation. We're all aware of this horrible situation, but is it really necessary to keep rehashing it, especially after Mike has stated his feelings about it? At this time, I am not going to take any action by locking the threads, but I would encourage everyone to please keep the discussion to a minimum, if at all. Thanks!!!

I would suggest Mike not read replies to a thread about the photo's. It's no reason for people not to discuss it. But hey you have to start somewhere for your first lock....

Is there really anything new to be said regarding the infringment of his work though? Everyone on this forum knows what's happened. What's the point in continuing to rehash the subject with the same comments?

Hi,

Even though I am not a moderator, my suggestion at this point is to lock the thread if that would help Mike. It allows people to read but the message is there and no more discussion requires taking place for the respect of Mike by others entering the forumand suddenly finding out.

I too had messaged Mike several weeks back to inform about images being used in Australia. If I had understood the feelings in here from this thread for instance, I would not have messaged him in due respect. I apologise Mike for that.

Regards,

Jimmy Deguara

My original idea was to lock the forum, but after contacting Mike, he wished for the forums not to be locked. However, I do feel it is respectful to him if we would all keep the discussion to a minimum.

My suggestion (feel free to comment on this Mike) is that unless Mike's images are being used commercially, there is really no need to bring the subject up. Now, if you see somebody making money (stock house, magazine, advertising, etc...) off of his images, I would consider that acceptable for comment. The email stuff really is not, as they will be circulating forever (well, at least for 100 years or so).

hear, hear! I've had my astrophotos stolen before, and at this point, unless i see them on a commercial company or something like that, i laugh, glad to see i'm not completely crazy Mike! ;)

I said I didn't feel it needed locking on my behalf and that I'd just not read them if it was all bugging me(what else could one think). I said to leave it open so if anyone wants to talk about it and things that relate to what has happened they could. I can't see ever wanting a thread locked over anything. Just so it is clear, it is not going to bug me one way or the other if folks talk about it. I feel weird saying that. My problem was hearing about it sooooo much, but that is MY problem. I can regulate that if I want.

Jimmy, don't worry about it, I'm annoyed by the message not the messenger. Thanks again actually. More than anything I just was wishing it'd go away. But now I've taken a good break from it all, or at least made efforts to(backed up e-mails) and am going to try and maybe salvage something for myself on these photos. It is requiring me to put a page together on just a few fun cases. I should have been keeping better records of what all I was informed of. But anyway, some of it is pretty fun reading and telling on how people can be out there. It is a work in progress but there is now quite a bit on the page.

If you want a few good laughs I think one can find them in some of this. I share this because it shows just how widespread it can be and how some folks are. The real problems with them are the ones I won't likely even hear of. There are a couple on this page, but most are not big problems at all. Well other than the fact they are so well known/seen they are now un-marketable. Anyway, some funny stuff is now at this url:

http://www.extremeinstability.com/storms.htm

That page should make everyone want to put a © on their images. Had I done that I could probably be living on an Island somewhere off print and dvd sales. Not because of legal reasons but the resulting traffic I WOULD have seen.

Here are just a few links to various places posting or mentioning these images.
Yeah, that really looks like a few Mike, lol. I know how your feeling man, but some people that even copyright their images, get them ripped, if you do end up putting copyrights on your images, do it like Mike U. he's got a good thing going on that will prtect him well.

Well, it's official. The "amazing pictures of Hurricane Katrina" have made it to UWGB. I spotted some girl looking through them in the computer lab just now, and approached her ("Excuse me, where did you get those photos?"). She said someone had e-mailed them to her with the "Hurricane Katrina" title. At least she was skeptical, becuase she could tell Plains terrian from Gulf Coast terrain. I directed her to Mike's website and his page listing the places they have popped up.

It was only a matter of time.

Joe,

That would make me mad. I guess I wouldn't be as concerned about it if my pics were circulation as "my cousin's mother's boss shot these of Hurricane Vince in southwestern Spain"... But to actually read that guys post about he stopped to take the pictures, and blah blah blah. That's not just "forwarding" the pictures in a mass-email manner, but that's blatantly stealing them and claiming them to be your own.

Yeah, it got ME hot under the collar, it reminds me of my problems too, because this guy claimed he had taken my photos with this 14" telescope, and how it was his first try, yadda, yadda, yadda.... I raised hell on that site, and i'd love to do it with Mike's but i mean, this is SO widespread, it isn't even funny when they are being used as STOCK photos!

Jesus...
They might very well be, the local newspaper bought them from me!
What a piece of work this fool is. He said he might even sell them to TWC...Ebaumsworld also is hosting these....and not giving any credit at all....and by the way the owners act, I wouldn't be surprised if they cared...http://www.ebaumsworld.com/weirdcloud.html They even have it marked with an Ebaumsworld logo....
