I have a 64 bit Vista machine running Grlevel3, Delorme Street Atlas and GPSgate. I want to configure so as to be able to get a GPS position on both Grlevel3 and Street Atlas. The Delorme Serial Emulator does not work on 64 bit systems so I guess the Earthmate GPS BT-20 will not work for anything outside of StreetAtlas. I also have a Garmin
nuvi 255w but it does not work with GPSgate either. Can anyone suggest a GPS device that is compatable with this software?

thanks, stephen

By chance, to you have a data card with a GPS built in. My chaser partner has a Vista machine and I think it's 64 bit. We use the sprint 592 USB card with built in GPS. It works great with Delorme and GR2AE using GPSgate.

I'll ask my tech guy what other solutions or suggestions there may be.

Hi Jason, actually I do have a Sprint card w/built in GPS , Serria Wireless Compass 597. I am unable to get GPSgate to recognise it. So I am still looking for a GPS device compatable with GPSgate/Grlevel3/Street Atlas.

Stephen,

Let me know which versions of Delorme Street Atlas and Franson GPSGate you are using. Also, do you already own the Delorme BT-20 or are you thinking about buying it? I think I can help you get up and running as I've been running these applications on my laptop for the last few years and everything works well for me.

Thanks,
Mark

GPSgate sees my Compass 597 fine and it works great. Are you using the Sprint software? Once you pull down the GPS tab and it gets a lock you need to hit the button that looks like a play button, that allows external apps to see the GPS including GPSgate.

on hold

Thanks for everyone's input however I am currently on hold with this problem because Gpsgate has ceased to function. I uninstalled and reinstalled but the program will not open. I have appealed to Gpsgate tech support for help. If and when I can get Gpsgate to open on my machine I will return to the problem of trying to get it to recognise a GPS device.

Hey David Poch;

David,

OK, Gpsgate is up and running. I still cannot get GPSgate to recognise the Compass 597 after pressing play to start NMEA. I have run the wizard and tried manual configurations. I have tried all the port configurations I can think of. Any ideas?

Stephen,

One thing you should make sure you do when you install GPSGate is to select the radio button for: "install application to all users on this PC". If you install it for only yourself (even if you're the only user on your machine) it will cause problems as it did for me until I installed it for all users by selecting that option during the install process.

Also, do you already have the Delorme Earthmate BT-20? If so let me know as that is what I use and I can help you as I use the same set of programs as you do.

The other quirky thing with GPSGate is once you've booted up, you have to wake the dumb program up in order for it to see your GPS signal (wherever it's coming from). To do this, just right click the icon in the system tray, bring it up for a few seconds, then right click the "X" in the upper right hand corner to close it out. I've noticed that if I don't do this everytime I reboot, it's as though the program is sleeping for some odd reason. Let me know about my previous post as well as I'm not sure which versions of the programs you are using.

Okay - fire up your BT-20 and connect it to your laptop using your bluetooth stack and/or software. For simplicity's sake, don't start your GPS function using Sprint on your datacard, otherwise GPSGate will see both signals. With my Toshiba laptop, I just right click the bluetooth icon in the system tray, then select "bluetooth settings" and basically follow the prompts (enter 0000 if prompted for a password). Once your BT-20 has a fix on a satellite (the middle light on the unit will blink green) and it's connected to your laptop, then you are ready to split the signal using GPSGate. The BT-20 will have to be in a south facing window so it can get a fix on the satellites. When the BT-20 is connected to your laptop and has a fix on the satellites, fire up GPSGate and use the wizard to search for your BT-20. Just use the wizard and all should be well. Let me know when you get to this step and we'll take it from there.

If you want to go offline and PM me, I can give you my phone number if you want to cut through the chase and get this done tonight. I'm in the process of performing a clean install on my laptop on a new hard drive, so I'll have to put my old hard drive back in to assist you on the phone as I don't have Delorme Street Atlas installed yet on my new hard drive. Let me know.

Yeah, I'd really be curious how you got this working as well. I went through this a month or two ago, and could never get GpsGate to see my Delorme LT-40. Delorme doesn't make virtual device drivers for Vista 64-bit (at least they didn't have them a couple of months ago), so I was told that I was just SOL.

Anyways, a friend on here recommended the Garmin GPS 18. I picked one up cheap from Amazon (they are discontinued) and it works like a champ with GpsGate, GR3, WxTap, Garmin software, and even Delorma SA2009.
