Fabian Guerra - ST Member

Dennis, thank you for arranging this gift on behalf of Stormtrack and for arranging a means to make donations for the family. I have made a contribution and would urge all who can to do so. Also, thanks, Dennis, for keeping us informed on the arrangements. Such a sad situation.

The Floral Arrangement / Live Planter with Peace Lilies has been ordered and will be delivered tomorrow to the funeral home for the Guerra Family.
The card will read:

The Guerra Family,
Thank You for sharing Fabian with all of us over the years. We will all miss him, his knowledge, enthusiasm, and friendship greatly.
The Stormtrack and Chaser Community.

We are continuing to take donations for the family and will forward them as often as they come in. Please remember this family and help as you can.

Again the Memorial Service is:

Thursday, June 11, 2009 from 5 PM until 8 PM at:

Lakeview Funeral Home
1458 W. Belmont Av.
Chicago, IL. 60657.
The family will receive friends between these hours.

This will be the only service held for Fabian.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support. They have been keeping up with the posts here on ST.
Fabian leaves behind his wife, Sara, their daughter, Milla who just turned 12 on the 5th of June, and their son, Miles who just turned 6 in April.

Please continue to remember this family as they learn to adjust to the loss of Fabian who was a Husband, Father, Son, Brother, and Friend.

Unfortunately, Craig's work check has been inexplicably delayed from the time we both expected it to arrive this morning, and we are unable to get in touch with people we know in that area in lieu of getting a hotel for the evening. Since our only choice at this point would be to drive back the exact same road at the exact same time that Fabian crossed it no more than a few days ago, we have opted instead to donate the $40 we set aside so far for this trip directly to Fabian's family through Dennis' generous fundraiser. That money will see better use by fulfilling his family's needs, as their concerns are far above our own during this dark hour.

We are instead going to visit our friend and brother at rest,as well as his family and our friend Elton, as soon as we are able and as soon as we've given enough time for his loved ones to get all the stressful necessities of this tragedy in order.

Rest in peace, Fabian. We'll love you and always remember you, and we'll see you soon.

-Darrin and Craig

I received this email from Jason Holman's sister today (Jason was the passenger):

Jay was transferred to the Neuro icu in Davenport w/ a severe head injury. The bones above his eye broke and fragments of that went into his brain and he underwent a procedure called a craniotomy. He is home now, we picked him up yesterday...about a 2 1/2 hr drive from Chicago, part of which was on the same interstate the accident happened on. He is recovering physically from his injuries but everything else hopefully will come w/time. He is still quite shaken up and trying to deal w/ the loss of a good friend and the traumatic memories of the accident. Fabian's memorial service is today, Jay will be there.

The funeral home has set up a page for Fabian here:

The service for Fabian was this evening, and I was able to attend.

The spacious building had the main room expanded to include a smaller back area, and both were filled to capacity, with standing room only for most of the service. Many relatives of both Fabian and Sarah were there, along with both of his children, and I found out from some other attendees that Jason was also there (I wanted to meet him but apparently he'd already left), as Dan reported via the email from Jason's sister). In total, I would guess there were between 200-300 people.

The service was one of rememberances, and many of his relatives, coworkers (previous and present), and those he'd shared his life's journey with through school, music (as a band member and manager in the Chicago local and regional band scene), and family, got up and shared their stories and memories of him. The overall impression I received from their stories is that the Fabian we all knew here, is the Fabian everyone knew. He was the real deal, a genuinely positive-thinking person who was passionate about whatever he chose to pursue, and sought to get those around him to do the same. He was described as friendly to all, a family man, unafraid, and wanting others to be the best they can be too.

I was able to meet his brother, who expressed to me that they have noticed the outpouring of support from the ST website, and are grateful. I also met hiss mother, Bonita, who was gracious, but obviously in shock. Please keep her and the family in your prayers.

I did not run into any other StormTrack members there, so if anyone else has anything to add, please do.

He will be missed. Those who knew him, can honor his family and him by carrying on the messages and lessons he taught so openly to all....and please do donate to the "FGF" if you can.

I wish I could have been there tonight...... I had work at the fire house and it was a training/drill night and I couldn't miss. I was there in spirit and was glad Jim made it there.

Message Appreciated

I have seen a number of storm chasers put a line on their web-streaming picture "In memory of Fabian Guerra" recently.

Its a good reminder of who to remember during our chases and a good public show of support for Fabian's family in their time of grief and sorrow.

I'm sure Fabian's family would want to say "thank you" for your remembrances. :) Please keep Fabian Guerra in your hearts and prayers.

IDEA: Why not have Stormtrack print up a number of white decals/stickers with the initials F.G. and put them on our chase vehicles?? And we could donate the money from the sales of stickers toward the kids' college education?? Hey MODS!!

My heart is with Fabian Guerras family and friends at this difficult time. If I could donate I would, but I am broke and I don't have PayPal.

And get well soon Jason

I would just also like to say that my heart and prayers are with Fabian's friends and family. Try to remember the good times and all the wonderful memories. I know it's tough and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure Fabian would want you to keep smiling and remember the joy he brought to your lives.

Take care.

Melanie

I did think of something akin to a memorial golf tournament analogue for chasers for the next couple of years (except it would not be annual-by-the-date, due to the nature of the beast). ST members and members from other boards and chase groups close to Fabian would have a meetup during a solid multi-day setup, and dedicate a set percentage of any earnings made from footage to the Guerra family. I don't know how much is actually made from those who are media chasers and live streamers, but I thought it would be a nice idea; of course the biggest strike is the inherent indifference in Ma Nature even to this kind of cause, but if we select, say, a well-modeled week in late May, it might work to great benefit.

I like this idea and the sticker idea, both are ways that the act of chasing itself could actually benefit his family.
