Agree with you Bill

That would be an interesting concept agree totally Bill....many schools of thought...different chase styles...and a solid MDT risk. Now that would be an entertaining series. I would be up for something like that. Start off with the pre-chase buildup and hype...then the forecasting of the target area...the morning gut check...and then off to the Plains. If we can keep the Pacific pipeline going into the spring, this could be quite a year for such projects.

Monday would be a good candidate...

Hmmmmm.....night-time chasing 50mph low topped supercells in the Arklatex in Jan. Now that is what I call a challenge Shane !! Not much for the TV however.

Unique slant? How about trying to remote pilot a UAV into a supercell/tornado? Whatcha think, Verne?
It beats the knucklehead trying to put a rocket into a tornado...:D:D

Thanks Brian! Oh, and I'm serious about that 'Girls Next Door' Idea:

Ronan, if you can make this happen then count Gene and I in. We can be the comic relief of the series.... 'meanwhile back at the ranch....'.

Brian / Shane we could have you guys along as Special Consultants. :D

I finally caught this show on New Years weekend. One thing I really liked about this one was the undaunted persistence of the teams, failures, frustrations and all. I don't think that the general public really realizes that chasing for a goal, whether it is for footage or for data, takes endless pounding at the pursuit to get it done. Often it takes multiple outings, again and again, for years before the goal is achieved. I know we can all relate to that. Some of my own shots have taken me 7 years to get. I'm okay with that, because I know that if I keep going for it year after year it will happen. That's when the obsession comes in handy. Too many times, chase shows offer a kind of instant gratification to the viewing public. A backlit tornado from an LP with lightning bolts flying out of it just drops from the sky in center frame three times per week. But that's not chasing. We scratch and claw for it sometimes. Unexpected things happen as well, both good and bad. But they add to the experience; achievements have a sweeter taste when they are hard-won. I don't like it when things are easy. Very nice show, I'm glad they covered that part of it.

UAV's are a very unique slant! Funny you should mention that.

The general idea is to expand to cover more ground, more storms...more footage. If people are doing interesting and/or new things while chasing, all the better.

If anyone has leads they would like to share, please PM me.

With all the past discussion about 'tornado girl,' who quite honestly was a trooper, could you image what would happen if we had the girls next door on?!?!

Reading this thread has become a highlight of my day.

Thank you Susan for your thoughts on last season's show.

We got a unique slant in my opinion. I'm a sophomore Meteorology major at U of Northern Colorado. I'm a latino raised in inner-city Denver so I'm guessing one of the few people in here who chases to rap music (DMX, Snoop Dogg, etc). I chase with my girlfriend who is a freshman Meteorology major and with my classmate Doug who is a 16 year old child prodigy. Doug is a sophomore double Meteorology and Math major with a minor in Computer Science. I dropped an e-mail with more info if you're interested.

With your background, Grant, this would certainly make a great news story.

I have associations to your experience, though I myself am not inner city background.
On one of my tours, we ended up in one of the worst neighborhoods in Omaha, filming black and green sky. My suburban bred client was feeling quite nervous about our location; however we became a real hit as we stood in that gas station parking lot. Lots of people came up to us asking us what we were doing.. They were quite intrigued to discover that we were storm chasers. Letting people look through our cameras and educating them about storms-visually, when perhaps many who came to talk with us had never looked seriously at the sky before- was a rare treat indeed. So was reassuring them that no tornado would actually hit their neighborhood.

On another tour, we tore after a young, exploding supercell to the tune of Jimmi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" on the CD. That was a truly cosmic moment or two.
