Detailed Verizon coverage map

Mike,
I don't know what you're seeing as opposed to what I linked to. The first one was a small cell coverage map, the second was a map and links to other states for the Alltel data coverage.

I followed your links and found essentially the same information (actually, it was the same, just liked differently).

Go figure....

Well maybe you get something other than what I get when you click on the links, lol.

When I click on your first link all I get is a cell coverage for alltel, not a data coverage map. The second link you have here was supposed to be for data, but if you click on it maybe you'll see it is just the legend?

Ok, I see it now. Before I was getting a National Map, with a link box to the regional areas (Like your's). Now I just get the legend.

Oh well... all in a days's work. :)

I am running out of time on Cingular now AT&T. I am considering Verizon and need to know how it has worked in western Oklahoma, Kansas area. Any major dead spots since the Verizon map does not cover a lot of Oklahoma?

In my trip just completed, I found the Verizon EVDO map to be understating the actual coverage in some areas marked as unserved. I received almost uninterrupted coverage on I-80 in NE from Julesburg to Sidney and up US385, I-40 from the CO border to Hays, and US183 to the OK border. Coverage stopped dead at the OK border, but resumed almost instantly (how dey do dat?) upon entering back into TX on US60 toward Canadian. I had broadband in the boonies both south of Badlands NP and southwest of Lipscomb, TX.

My setup BTW was a Linksys wifi-G aircard router under the driver seat with a Wilson mag-mount whip on the roof for the aircard. I drove streaming a local Phoenix radio station at a 20kb data rate on the computer as a service indicator. My impression is that an amplifier would considerably increase the coverage.

But back to the issues. I thought verizon and alltel were sharing all their stuff, but by the sounds of it, they aren't since Dave gets alltel error messages where it shows coverage and I was getting verizon error messages where it also showed coverage. I've found Alltel's maps to be very good so far, with the exception of sw IA and ne CO. Northeast CO wasn't as good as it showed either. Also you'll notice ne CO looks like it's not covered while looking at the Nebraska map, but when you look at the CO map it shows ne CO covered(which it's not that covered). There are several mixed examples like that from map to map.

http://www.alltel.com/business/enhanced/mobilelink_coverage.jsp There that's the link to see their maps.

I think Alltel is remixing how they share their EVDO and who they partner with. Seems to me I read somewhere (probably Howardforums) that they're switching over to Sprint primarily for data partnering. However, I've ended up on Verizon towers plenty of times lately (at least according to my IP address), so I dunno what the SW Iowa issue is. Probably the only way to find out is to call Alltel, dial into their technical support line (where you occasionally find someone who knows a lot about EVDO), and then explain the problem. They can likely give you the skinny on what's going on.
