This raises questions which some of you may or cannot answer

(1) Is video is uploaded to these places for use, how does the shooter know that efootage (or others) will sell the videos and not tell them. Is there any security in knowing

(2) How does efootage make sure to insure the footage is legit and is owned by the user and not copies and used as was in this email? In this case, someone else used Dan's footage. How did that happen and was payment already paid out from Efootage. If so aren't they libel or something?

(3) How and what is a secure permit or information to use . Is there a good one out there?

Everyone might want to do a check of efootage.com. I'm not sure how they got it, but I found one of my videos listed in their catalog for sale.

BE CAREFUL!

ANYTIME you allow a service or tv station to uplink your video, there is danger of you losing control of where it goes and who is getting it. The stations I deal with now are restricted by written contract from uplinking any of my video to anyplace. If it needs to go to the network or CNN, I do it myself.

A few years back, I was working at my station when a bunch of Doug Keislings stuff came across the old Conus network feeds...and one of our people put it on tape. Thats how I found out where it came from. I promptly erased it after checking with Doug, just to make sure it didnt get used without permission. He nor our people seem to know why it was on Conus which was based in Dougs town of Minneapolis. So be careful out there, its a dangerous broadcast world nowadays and we have to look out for each others interest.

Let me also just say that this is very well done however, you have a major problem on your hands that needs to be taken care of ASAP

You have stolen copyright pictures for use with this project one of which happens to be mine, I believe there is also one of Eric N. and maybe even Dick M.
You have then listed your copyright "worldwide" which legally would superceed any and all copyrights from original owners.

I am unaware of your contact procedures for others but I can say that you did not contact me nor ask for permission or use.

Please contact me ASAP.

Thanks for the kind words Lanny. I should say though this is exactly why I decided not to sell the ebook and instead gave it away for free. Most images were taken from a 'royalty free stock photo' website where I purchased the images. A few were also taken from wikipedia (where the images said they had no copyright and could be used freely). Also, none of these images had any info about who took the pictures so there was no way for me to know who to get permission from. Like I said, I did not sell this guide because I wasn't 100% confident on how the copyrights work. I Apologize Lanny (and anyone else for letting this happen). If you would like your image removed please let me know asap

Most images were taken from a 'royalty free stock photo' website where I purchased the images. A few were also taken from wikipedia (where the images said they had no copyright and could be used freely). Also, none of these images had any info about who took the pictures so there was no way for me to know who to get permission from. Since you informed me and everyone on this forum that you were a "veteran" chaser who took many stills and video that you understood copyright issues and since you knew there was a "possible" issue from the start (your words not mine, see above) this is why you decided not to sell your work. Interestingly enough, you were "smart enough" and knew enough about copyrights to put a full copyright on your work even including those who you did not have permission from.

I know what website you got it from, it is the same stock site that sells some of my work, I have e-mailed them already and given them your name and information and I would expect contact from them.

Again, this is why I did not attempt to sell the guide (because I did not fully understand what the 'GNU' meant or if one was supposed to be able to use those image commercially) and decided to give the ebook away as I thought someone could learn from the information it contained. Also, feel free to show me exactly where I claimed that I have many still images and videos of storms. Hell, I would have NEVER mentioned anything about what I know about chasing until people began challenging my knowledge by telling me I'm a 'noob' and need to learn the basics and that my opinion didn't matter because I was a 'noob'. Then when I defend myself and try to explain to people I DO already know the basics I am mocked because apparently I'm running around telling everyone I'm a veteran chaser? What do you want me to do? So which images are you referring to Lanny? Also, I have received nothing from you in my 'inbox'. I agree, 'ignorance is not an excuse' as you have stated. However, I purchased the images and used them within the guidelines as far as I was aware....its not like I made zero attempt at trying to do things 'legally'.

I'm not trying to drag this out but yes I DID purchase the images (like I have insisted). I'm not sure how I can prove this to you in any other way but this. Below are a set of 3 images. The first image is a 'Download Credits Log' for my account with BigStockPhotos.com. The next two images are a couple of the images that I purchased from this site and used in my ebook (look at the first image and then match up the image names - as you will see they match).
