Cons of most recent model runs?

I use pivotalweather.com to access weather models. I’ve noticed that whichever model I look at, the default view is of the model’s most recent run except when I look at the RAP or HRRR. In those cases, the default is the run from 4 runs ago.

I’m wondering if there’s a reason for this?

Should the older RAP and HRRR runs be given some special priority when using those models?

I’m thinking that there’s probably nothing to this, but if there is, knowing the reason would greatly expand my understanding of how to use models. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I went to the site and had the same result with the HRRR. I see no reason why it would default to anything besides the most recent run. Looks like a glitch in the site in my opinion.

99% of the time I look at the COD page for data. I've never had this issue. I just went there and it has the 4Z run as the default, so it's good to go. Not sure what the deal with Pivotal is.

Pivotal reverts back to 00/06/12/18z runs by default. I think this may be because the site defaults to the GFS and when you switch models, it attempts to retain the same hourly run from model to model.

Quincy is correct - it tries to stay on what ever run and hour you have it on if available. For example, if you select hour 0 of the 15z HRRR and switch to RAP, you get hour 0 (15z) of the 15z RAP run. If you then switch to GFS, you get 12z run but at hour 3 (15z) since there is no 15z GFS run. If you then switch back to the HRRR you get hour 3 (15z) of the 12z HRRR run. Bottom line - check both time stamps when switching models.

The default is what you make it My bookmark is to the HRRR so it's always the latest run when I go there. If I click the other models, it will switch then to the 0/6/12/18Z (whichever is latest.) Then if I go back to the HRRR, it stays with the 0/6/12/18Z.
