City Supercells

Was out chasing in central Johannesburg yesterday. Bad idea, almost got hit by a RFD powered flying dustbin. And the traffic just came to a halt with the hail. So the chase came an end. Johannesburg got whacked by a huge supercell on Sunday, no tornado, but strong straightline and hail. Anybody else got pics of city supercells?

May 1st LP supercell that went through the middle of Oklahoma City. Thankfully didn't drop a tornado, but did produce a lot of hail and some amazing structure:

This was just after it has passed through OKC, and was out in more open farmland.

This was from back from Sept. 21, 2005 in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities. It did produce a few tornadoes in the north metro but the big story was the massive amount of RFD damage. It was the year before I started chasing and I didn't have a good camera so the pics aren't the greatest but it was still a helluva storm.

A local weather photog here in DC (Kevin Ambrose) has taken some fantastic weather shots in and around DC. Chasing in the DC is impossible, but if you set-up right, and with plenty of time, you can grab some of the best (and really make good bank!!) on the shots here. I going to try and get Bill Hark and William Coyle up here for some of those shots if I can. I know they've seen some good stuff down near the Richmond area, with the city backdrop. Maybe they'll chime in on the thread.

Best I've done is from the northern suburbs in Monkey...ahhhh....Montgomery County, MD. I have a number of 'high' spots that I'll head to in the area, some that are man made, some that are not. In many of those, you can see the 'edge city' kind of city backdrop, but nothing like the urban core.
