Christmas forecast

reading the Amarillo NWS forecast discussion for Christams eve was a bit entertaining. He had to work for a while on it I am sure.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX
310 PM CST FRI DEC 24 2004

.DISCUSSION...
TWAS THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND ACROSS THE PANHANDLE REGION...SKIES
WERE CLEAR/TEMPERATURES WERE COLD AND SNOW PACK WAS THE REASON.
NORTHERLY FLOW ALOFT WILL HELP SANTA'S SLEIGH RIDE...AND ALSO BRING
IN HIGH CLOUDS WHERE SANTA CAN HIDE. AFTER SANTA IS HOME AND HIS
REINDEER TAKE A REST...MID LEVEL FLOW WILL START TO CHANGE AND SHIFT
TO THE WEST. SURFACE TEMPERATURES WILL WARM UP THROUGH THE FIRST OF
NEXT WEEK...AS WESTERLY DOWNSLOPE WINDS FROM DAY TO DAY WILL REPEAT.
ALL THE SNOW WILL HOLD DOWN TEMPS UNTIL IT CAN MELT...SO LOWERED HI
AND LOW TEMP ACROSS THE THICK SNOW BELT. NOT MANY CHANGES WERE MADE
IN MOST THE SHORT TERM GRIDS...THINKING THE SNOW WILL STICK AROUND
TWO OR SO DAYS JUST FOR THE KIDS. QUIET WEATHER IS THE KEY AND THIS
WILL BE GOOD NEWS...FOR THE FOLKS AT THE WEATHER SERVICE CAN REST OUR
WEARY SHIFT CREWS.

LONG AFTER SANTA IS HOME AND CHRISTMAS IS PAST...WEATHER MODELS SHOW
SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT AFTER OUR DEEP FREEZING BLAST. TEMPS WILL
BE AT OR ABOVE NORMAL WHICH IS IN CONTRAST TO THE END OF THIS WEEK...
SO PLEASANT WEATHER IN STORE AT LEAST AT FIRST PEEK. LOOKING TOWARDS
THE NEW YEAR IT IS STILL HARD TO SAY...BUT SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW STILL
LOOKS TO BE THE BEST PLAY. STILL ARE SOME DIFFERENCES IN WHICH WAY
THE MODELS WILL GO...WITH THE 00Z EURO PROGRESSIVE AND THE GFS WITH A
CLOSED LOW. TRENDED TEMPS UPWARD WITH HIGHS MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK...AS
SOUTHWESTERLY SFC WINDS CONTINUE PROVIDING A WARM WINTER TREAT. ALL
IN ALL THE FORECAST AND GRIDS APPEAR IN GOOD SHAPE...NO MAJOR CHANGES
WERE MADE SO PRODUCTS SHOULD NOT GET OUT LATE.

SO FROM THIS METEOROLOGIST AT YOUR LOCAL NWS OFFICE ON THIS COLD
AFTERNOON...I WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS...HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL...
AND I'LL SEE Y'ALL AGAIN SOON.

FCSTID = JORDAN

LOL I think it was last year that the AMA office formatted their Christmas day AFD as a Christmas tree... The text of that AFD sounds much like the discussions from I-65, which are quite hilarious... There was a thread on 'funny/creative discussions', but I can't find it right now...

He should get an award for this. Its hard enough to write a discussion but to incorporate it into "twas the night before Christmas" is extraordinary.
