ChaserCon 2010 ***Official Thread***

I will have a limited number of my Lubacca Storm Chase DVDs with me at the convention for those interested. I'll have all 4 DVDs in tow for $20 each or the entire 4-DVD set for $60.

I look forward to seeing everyone! Sounds like a lot of you coming in for this one!

Well Amtrak lost all my luggage, literally left with my laptop, my camera, and my checkbook. Had to get emergency clothes at a Walmart near Scott's house here in Omaha.... not a good start to the journey....

Ouch dude, that sucks! Glad you at least held on to your laptop, camera, and checkbook. If they were going to lose luggage, glad it wasn't those items. Good luck getting that all worked out.

Good day all,

Well Amtrak lost all my luggage, literally left with my laptop, my camera, and my checkbook. Had to get emergency clothes at a Walmart near Scott's house here in Omaha.... not a good start to the journey....

I learned that years ago (the hard way, just like you - sorry to hear these stories, BTW) ... I never - ever - checked a single bag (intentionally) since 2006. I remember flights getting delayed, then I sleep overnight at the airport (hotel? No, they don't pay for those things anymore, it's not 1986) ... Then (finally) get to my destination, no bags, conveyor goes round and round, then stops = no bag. Have to pick it up the next day. Never again.

I carry EVERYTHING on. Last year in 2008, 2 weeks in the plains, all my equipment was carry on (the carry on itself weighed 68 LBS)! Vaccum bags and rolling up shirts works wonders!

To feel a little better, my flight last year to the convention was cancelled, and I had to deplane, and the next flight was out in the morning. Then, the aircraft tow bend the nose wheel (on the re-scheduled MORNING flight), delaying that 3 hours. I got into denver at 1 PM Saturday, missing half of the convention and snow-mobiling in the mountains a day earlier (I was supposed to get in early on Friday).

This was an aweful start to 2009, and chasing in 2009 pretty much followed murphey's law luck through June. I will say an extra parayer for you that this "incident" won't be jinx #1 of 99 for you in 2010. No just kidding.

Once you get to the convention, and see all of our happy faces, you will once again be golden...

Will be on my way in the morning, still disappointed i didn't get to register in time for Vasquez's forecasting class tomorrow night. Would of been very useful for me to get in on that. :(

Oh well though, looking forward to a wonderful weekend! :)

Good day all,

Currently in Denver and headed to check out the mountains today. Hopefully see you guys at the ice-breaker tonight (Friday).

Flying

I never check baggage unless they force me to do it.

I am streaming LIVE from Delta flight 1897. See you at 36,000 feet!

But yeah, I always scratched my head on that whole "special conference rate" when that much cheaper option is there(for those that know they will be there). Think that was hashed out on here or somewhere before, with that "special" pricing helping cover conference costs or something.

I have been involved in several 'conferences' and the room rates are usually less than the walk-in rates but might not be the cheapest available. When you register using the convention registration process you are helping pay for the meeting rooms and other amenities that may have been negotiated by the sponsoring group. If a minimum number of 'room nights' are not booked then additional fees might (will) be added to the final bill.

I believe in supporting the people that put on event that I might drive a thousand miles for. (I handle my own luggage and don't fly unless there is no other option.I also don't pay eight dollars for a blanket or pillow while on the road.)

In Denver at the hotel! Now to enjoy the next several days trying the grasp what the speakers are telling us. Its like a pre-schooler attending Harvard.

EXCELLENT talks so far... And if you haven't signed up for streaming - you can still do it and see them all as the archive will be online for a week. Clearly worth the money - it's a steal of a deal!

I am at home wishing I was at the conference but the streaming is the next best thing. Totally enjoying the live stream. I missed a couple of talks due to a prior commitment and will watch them later on the archives. I definitely recommend signing up. It's very inexpensive.
