ChaserCon 2010 ***Official Thread***

As a newbie with basic weather knowledge would this be way over my head? I would hate to go and not understand a thing they are talking about. Do they dumb it down for people like me or is it an advanced training thing?

My wife and I went last year after having an active interest in chasing for one year. By all means, we were (and still are) newbies and had a great time. Yes, many of the discussions were completely over our heads, but a good portion was very understandable. And just as Jason has said, I connected the dots on several things as I continued to study and chase throughout the year.

All in all, it was a great time and we're looking forward to going again this year. If you do make it to the convention, look us up. Bryan & Jenn Stokes. We're in the Air Force too.

Hopefully Tim or Roger will announce what the topics are soon. With less than 8 weeks to the conference I'd like to know what that topics are going to be. Only one is mentioned on the website and it's about Chaser Safety. Can we assume all of the others are going to be about Vortex 2?

Dr. Greg Forbes
- The Weather Channel - Topic TBA
Mike Bettes - The Weather Channel - Topic TBA
Tim Marshall - Topic TBA
Jon Davies - Topic TBA
Dr. Howie Bluestein - Topic TBA
Chris Novy - Chaser Safety
Greg Stumpf - NSSL - Topic TBA
Dr. Josh Wurman - CSWR/Doppler on Wheels
Dr Erik Rasmussen - Topic TBA

For interested parties, I just booked my hotel room at a rate of $66.00 per night and this package includes a free breakfeast buffet for 2 people.

Not sure how long this deal will last... hopefully others will be able to take advantage of it.

Edit- make sure you enter in the dates of Feb. 12-14 otherwise you will get the base rate of $99.00.

A few people have asked for an opportunity to bring their "significant other" to the Banquet Dinner (even if they don't want to attend the rest of the Convention).

You may now sign them up for just the Dinner and Dr. Forbes' keynote presentation for just $35.00! Just email Roger Hill at [email protected] for details!

Thanks!

Thanks to some good research by my brother, Marc, the four of us were able to book flight out of Tallahassee, vehicle rental, and shared hotel room for Thursday night through Monday morning for $355 per person. We've been going since 2007, and every year has offered something worthwhile for each of us. This year, I'm probably most looking forward to Tim V's forecasting classes. See you all in Denver!

I seen a couple posts that rooms were gotten a little cheaper than the $74.00 convention rate. Has anybody gotten a good deal lately and how did you get it???

Rental cars for convention

For anyone flying / railing in and needing to rent a car for the weekend, Enterprise rental cars has a franchise right next to the Red Lion, maybe about 100 yards away from the front door. The rates are a lot cheaper than renting at the airport. The office is closed from noon Saturday until Monday morning, but they do have a drop box for off-hour returns. The Red Lion offers shuttle service to the airport.
I just reserved a standard size ( Malibu, Fusion, etc) for Thursday through Monday for about 1/3 of the best prices I found on Travelocity( couldn't check Hotwire as site is down for maintenance right now).

location:
4080 QUEBEC ST.
DENVER, CO 80216-6619
Tel.: (303) 320-1121

Hope this helps someone.

The entire time Red Lion has had cheaper rates. It was some pay now non-refundable deal. $65/room. Never been sure why those putting it on wouldn't mention those...for the people that KNEW there was no chance they'd back out. That must be something they only leave open as an option up to some set point, as it isn't there now. Saw that same thing on the Red Lion site last year.

Yeah like right now you can see it if you change the date to next weekend. Wala a $61 prepay no refund option pops up. They just changed the name to "24 hour sale" but it is the same exact thing they had before...that is always on there till must be a week away. Then they figure there is no chance someone books and doesn't show up, unlike surely happens on those cheaper pay now no refund rate things done well in advance.

But yeah, I always scratched my head on that whole "special conference rate" when that much cheaper option is there(for those that know they will be there). Think that was hashed out on here or somewhere before, with that "special" pricing helping cover conference costs or something.
