Complete bust for me. I'll go to Fargo and have crackers and cheese for dinner.

I admit it was mostly luck that brought me success. If I had been following this case the whole time I probably would've headed to west central Minnesota. But in most chases you need at least a little luck!
Nah, there's a better way to look at this. If you win, it's skill. If you lose, it's luck. ;o)

Thanks Dann for such a great virtual chase and putting all of this together...this was a ton of fun and a valuable learning experience. =)

I'm shooting video of a rapidly rotating wall cloud in the SW corner of the metro. Time to scoop Kiesling and show him how it's really done!

That was me (and probably the 3 or 4 other people on this storm):D

It definitely was. I made it up since you guys were close.

Actually, Im glad you brought that up about Canada Dann. I got a nice visual of a wall cloud illuminated by a sunset with a stove pipe tornado about 10 miles north of the border and 50 miles to the WNW of Pembina ND. I find that disappointing that that report wasn't available. LOL

It must have been huge!!

But in most chases you need atleast a little luck. But, I am glad I was able to get in to good position after I started this case, identifying the OFB, and setting up just south of initiation. And now, only about a 30 minute drive home. Anyone up for some dinner? Thanks Dann for putting the case together and doin the live chase! VERY cool!

My pleasure!

Thanks for the interesting case, Dann. I migh have been on a roadtrip to Canada and then to the Ohio State:rolleyes: with my brother and friend.

You're welcome!

:( That storm put down a bunch of hail. I'm sure it had beautiful structure!!

I really had a blast doing this. I was absolutely giddy when posting the IR image that had that first little blip of a cell forming.

That certainly was an intense three and a half hours. haha

What, no severe reports down in TX with that tropical system? I'm a little surprised. Thanks for the case, Dann. Actually, the only time I have ventured up into ND in rl was a bust day for me as well. Except that day, I did see some nice structure and nickel hail and got a time lapse of a mini-sup. But it was a LONG drive of about 36hrs from nw TN.

Didn't do too badly on this one. My final position (prior to when the radar lit up) was within 50 miles of initiation, and my initial position was even better - shouldn't have moved even 25 or 30 miles NW from it. Hard to say what would have really happened - would have come down to field decisions, and whether or not I really could have gotten ahead of the storms blasting down from the NW. Would have been tough to see such a brief tornado, but I likely would have been within 5-15 miles of it if I had made good decisions - maybe closer if I had made perfect decisions, but then I rarely do that.

Anyway, a good chase. Not sure whether I am now eating steak or walleye.

P.S. Thanks for putting this together, Dann. I really like the real-time chase, even though I was only able to get in on the latter half of so of it.

Sounds like a lot of people saw a very impressive tornado. Those 50' wide ones with no damage and no track don't come along every day! :p

Seriously... anyway, thanks Dan for setting this all up and managing it all night. As I check into my virtual dump in Devil's Lake, I can honestly say, this is virtual chasing at its best!:D

I want to thank everyone to participated and who have put together other chase cases. This was a lot of fun for me. It made it even better that so many people wanted to play. I love maps and had a good time editing the wayfaring map as well.

Actually, there was a tornado report in Texas early in the morning according to the tornado history project (click here). It wasn't reported with the SPC data however.

Just got back. Well, at least I saw a storm near Fargo...I think I'll join Paul in Fargo for those cheese and crackers! Congrats to the Twin Cities chasers.....

Thanks Dann for the chase case and interactive live chase!

Looks like I busted and now have a long drive back to Wichita, KS. This must be why I don't chase the upper-midwest much! lol. Thanks Dann, it was fun! Damn subsidence!

Not sure if a F0 makes for a steak dinner worthy catch...but heck its August and don't have any real Aug. naders in RL. Maybe some good walleye would be in order though. Thats in season !!

Twenty-one miles east of a brief spinup. Nuts. It might as well have been a hundred miles Right neighborhood, wrong address.

This was a very interesting case. I found it quite challenging.

Thanks, Dann! This was a so cool chase case, that I found a great interest to solve it. I would have taken that road to S.Cloud at 21Z and I'd have been waiting for convection in those zones; hpefully I would have intercepted the tower of the supercell forming to my south; if I had not committed any error while chasing, maybe I would have nailed the stovepipe:)
