Calm before storm

Hello storm chasers,

I like to see this sub-forum for education. This is from where we have to start before to chase. I'm happy to see it at the top of stormtrack forum list!

Look what I caught today with wrf. You can see the calm conditions before the front:

During the last similar weather condition, the wind before the front was strong, while after it the wind was weaker. It's a question of the pressure gradient, but in the both situations we had a cold front - very similar at the sea level pressure map at all and no calm zone, but here is not the same.

Any thoughts? I guess it is the same as with the intense and curved jet streams - the ageostrophic wind is acting toward the jet stream.

The winds here are not stormy, but it's a nice example how the wind can be calm before the storm.
