I am looking for input from anybody using 4G/LTE as their wireless means of connection. I have been in a few spots lately where I lose connection for a few miles and then regain it.

I am wondering a few things:

1. Is buying a signal booster worth the cost?
2. If so, what are the best units on the market?
3. I believe I have read that you have to have specific units for certain signals/providers. If so, any extra info you can provide would be great.

Thanks

Signal boosters are definitely worth the money....I'm on Verizon and I can have 1 bar and I switch on my booster and I have full bars. I have a Rockies amp from Maximum Signal http://www.maximumsignal.net/ The owner of the company is a member on this board and has great products.

I took a different route, and although this may not be what you are looking for, it's something to consider:

I have a Verizon Jetpack (model mhs291lvw) which sits in my car, and connects to an external 9db gain antenna. The jetpack creates a wireless internet hotspot in my car, which I then connect to for my data. Works with any 802.11 capable device, so it works with my iPad, Microsoft Surface, laptop, etc., without having to pay for the additional 4G capabilities on the individual tablets. The Jetpack model I have has notoriously good battery life, and I can turn it on in the morning, chase all day with it, and not have to put it back on the charger until that night. When my cellphone is only getting a 2-bar 3G signal in the car, the jetpack frequently has 3 or 4 bars 4GLTE so that external antenna makes a BIG difference when chasing in fringe areas. Jetpack service for me is only $20/mo and shares the data plan with our cellphones.

Another use for the jetpack: Never again get stuck paying for hotel internet. Just take it in your room with you (without the external antenna) and BOOM. Internet.

Good news on our front . We have cleared another major Hurdle and should have our FCC approval sooner rather than later.. Technomadia and Jack Mayer( RV tech Guru will be receiving production units to revue for everyone when we finally get to do our production runs.

That's great news Gordon. I've been waiting for this announcement and hope it means you'll have an LTE amp on the market before too awfully long.

If the FCC sticks to their word . We hope to have units to market in two months . I would like to speak to you about reviewing one for the stormchasing community . When we have production units available . Give me a call this week.

Gordon, do you know if the new units will work with the LG VL600? I have read information in the past that the 4G antennas on these modems are prone to breakage with some antennas that could 'brick' the modem.

They are wireless and you will need to make no physical connection to the device so no problem there . They will cover 700 , 850 , 1700 1900 2100 mhz . Will handle up to 8 devices at once even on different carriers . With all devices getting full amplification !

Thanks for all the support it has been painful . Learned a few things in the process. First off the arbitrator told us the units that did get approved actually only got 6 months approvals as with those Lobbyists and Lawyers working on their behalf convince the powers that be that . There had to be product on the market whether it made new standards or not as they would go out of business and folks needed something ( those manufacturers spent over 2 million on Lawyers and Lobbyists ). Also they are already having troubles with the units that have user adjustable pods ( which was against the new rules in the first place ! ) Our new boards now have over 900 chips whereas the previous generation had just over 400 . This partially due to the amplifiers being five band now instead of two , but also to meet all these new requirements without sacrificing power . We have also increased sensitivity ( now works with signal up to -126 ! ), reduced needed antenna separation. Our engineers are working 7 days a week on the new schematics. We will then spin four new prototypes for the 4 models . We stay at the front of the line during all this . After approval . We have to procure all parts then do our production runs . Thank you all for your patience and understanding

I have the cradle booster from Wilson. Its the Sleek-v (verizon).

I LOVE it. I have YET to lose my signal and I have been in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.

I am super skeptical, and LOVED my maximum signal amp. Best $115 I have spent.

Mobile Unit

Finally !!! Approved . Materials will be up for downloading at our Manufacturing site in a few days.

FCC ID2AC4N-MAXAMPMOBILE

frickin thank god! I have been needing one of these for months!!!

soon as they hit the market and funds are available I will be ordering one.

btw Gordon, I will primarily be using mine in my tractor trailer because I need solid signal while in the truck, so I will gladly give you a full review based on its abilities and it will be a quality review because I go into some really remote areas in Wyoming (Riverton, Rock Springs, Jackson, Casper), and in Nebraska (Scottsbluff) and several spots in the mountains here in Colorado (Glenwood Springs, Clifton, Alamosa, Pueblo, Steamboat Springs) and Oklahoma (OKC) all of these places are on routes where at points there is no decent signal or zero signal at all. I run out of Ft. Collins every morning.

In each of my reports I will include

date
time
wx conditions
hwy and mile markers
starting point
end point
terrain/geological inhibitors
signal strength
bandwidth tests
browsing capability and speed
grlevel3 function/speed

that way you can compare reports and see if there any discrepancies in performance based on geological formations, weather and/or different seasons.
