ATLANTIC: 'MAJOR' HURRICAN IGOR

Good day all,

I see more "fish" activity - Again.

Whoever chased Earl was smart, as that (for what it was worth) probably is the CLOSEST approach this year for any Cape Verde system.

This "right turn" BS is really getting old.

I think it is better if it stayed out at sea... 125 kt Cat 4 ain't a pretty sight for local residents. Nevertheless, I am keeping Igor peeled as unlike during Danielle, there doesn't appear to be blocking highs in forecast for N Europe. Instead we are in for a windy and rainy week. Extratropical remnants can be quite nasty as well.

Looks like Igor might be pretty nasty.

Very nice rapid intensification period today continues, will this get to cat 5?

On a separate note, I began wondering today what factors affect Hurricane size (not strength.) I tried doing some web research and couldn't find much.

It's your money, not mine.
EXACTLY!

While I would agree that Bermuda should be considered only by seasoned chasers and/or those with extended resources (aka money) there are a bit of reasons to go. It is nothing to plan it now and not go later...just make sure that is a 'refundable' ticket.

So far, it seems there is a way to chase this year.
Get a few barges together. Pile sand on them and plant a few palm trees. Put a hut on it and sail out into the path to get your shots of the "island" getting hammered by the strongest part of the hurricane.

You can see the ocean through the eye on visible sat... very clear and well defined. Very good symmetry on IR... both of the eye and the CDO. I wonder if it isnt/or wasnt, a cat 5 for a bit overnight.

Although only fish really care...

Oh god....rapid scan just gets me all kinds of excited. I am so trying to make my desktop background this animated gif. I was kinda liking how Cantore was saying on TWC how while different, the eye showed the little vortices that tornadoes also show in high resolution radar.

It would be really cool (in a hurricane-chase perspective that is) if Bermuda takes a direct hit from Igor.

If so, I'm game!

Anyone is welcome to tag along with me there ;-)
