An SDS Thread: Tornado Droughts & Your Last Tornado?

Oh, this is a good one. I went tornado-less in 2013, but my longest drought thus far was from 4/22/10 to 4/9/12...717 days. That streak will be broken if I don't see a tornado by April 1 of this year.

Last tornado: El Reno (didn't get in on the fall action like I should have)

Longest drought? I suppose I didn't chase too hard early on, so it's tough to say. I really didn't get to chase at all in 2009, so I'd say May 22 2008 to May 10 2010. (Wakita OK tornado)

Last Tornado: Tuscola, IL 11-17-2013 *** Screwed up big time and ended up sitting directly in the business end of an EF2 for about 30 seconds.

Longest Drought: 2 years, 2 days (went 0 for 2007).
*** May 23, 2006 - Near Sioux Falls, SD (gust front spin-up) to May 25, 2008 - Ava, IL (local chase success, 20 miles from home, after blue sky bust in NE the day before)
I was newly employed, without vacation days. So, I only got to make one trip to the plains in 2007(Day after Greensburg). Due to transmission problems for my chase partner's vehicle and our subsequent core punching and reliability fears, we did not get on the south side of the Tornadoing storm near Stafford, KS

Since I started chasing in May of 2010, my longest drought was 316 days between the birdfart Wolbach, NE tornado on 5/27/2012 and the birdfart Bonny Reservoir tornado on April 8, 2013. Otherwise, as far as good tornadoes go it would be 358 days between the 5/25/12 Ruseel, KS tornado and the 5/18/2013 Rozel tornado.

I was fortunate enough to be on the Washington, IL tornado for the last half of it's life on 11/17, which is my latest tornado by far, my former latest being the Pleasanton tornado of 6/20/2011. So, now I need to get one in July, Aug, Sep and Oct. I won't hold my breath ;)

My longest drought was between my first two tornado days, 5/29/04 to 5/23/08. I had a very poor ’05 , missed ‘06 entirely as I was having a house built and came close in ’07 but no cigar. My last tornadoes were Rozel 5/18/13.

My longest tornado drought was about 399 days...Had six tors on 4/14/12 and then didn't have any until two tors on 5/18/13.

My last chase and tornado was 11/17/13 (Manhattan/Frankfort, IL EF-2).

Technically my longest tornado drought was roughly 10 years between a tornado i saw when i was young in 03 and the April 18th bonny reservoir tornado. But since this was my first year of real chasing (after a couple years confined to Minnesota) I'm in the middle of my longest tornado drought with the Wayne Nebraska tornado on October 4th being my last.

Because we moved in 2012, my chasing was limited that year and I saw no tornadoes. So I had a tornado drought of just under 2 years, from May 25, 2011 (3, possibly 4, tornadoes in Arkansas) to May 18, 2013 (Rozel, KS). Much earlier in my chase career, when I was less experienced and had far less access to data, I had a 3-year tornado drought between 1998 and 2001.

Back in the day, I got a glimpse of the April 16, 1998 Nashville tornado (technically the wall cloud). I didn't see another tornado until the remnants of tropical storm Fay brought a weak tornado to Clemson University's campus. I really wasn't able to actively chase during those years, but I did keep a log of all the storms I saw. Hence, I think that's legit enough to count that as a 3785 day drought :)

Last tornado was the Viola, KS elephant trunk on May 19, 2013.
