An Appeal for Civility

On a private forum...it's not a right. Hey...if it was my board, some people would be kicked out simply because I don't like them.

Bottom line: Deal with it! If you really, really need to voice an opinion...do it on you're own blog, and post a link!

I totally disagre with this thought process....ST is now charging for membership and while I do not have any problems with that (we have been done done that road before) what I do have a problem with is the fact that with that $5 membership comes rights. These rights inlcude being able to post and talk weather. Why else have a membership fee? Why charge for it? What are the rewards and rights after paying such money? Keeping in mind that I did not/do not have a problem with said fee(please see the old thread regarding this)

So let me make sure I understand this....
To become a member you are required to pay $5. With that fee you are given the right to post and talk weather....but only if it is convenient to all inlvolved and heaven forbid should it upset anyone, particularly any mods??
The logic is still not there for me.

We had a heated debate last night, we even had some flame but banning/kicking 6 -7 or more people for what? Because we were discussing a stormchaser who has put himself in the public eye?
Forgive me if I am worng but, I thought this was a forum to discuss weather...anything involving weather!

I'm not sure why some are choosing to ignore the reason the thread was closed. It wasn't because of any opinions expressed about a stormchaser who has put himself in the public eye (which is game on IMO), it was due to members calling other members 'manservent' (I think that was it), 'fag', etc, which certainly can be construed as personal attacks that have no bearing on the topic.

Looking like this will all be a moot point soon anyway.

I think Reed should just be Reed and everyone let him do his thing, if you don't like it stay away from the storms, turn off your TV, cancel your internet and don't tell ANYONE you are a storm chaser because you can't avoid him any other way.

my big issue is with the the mods and the way it was handled ie. the bannings and suspensions. Chad berryhill was trying to lighten the mood and be somewhat funny and he gets kicked? For what?

We all get threatened if we don't "toe the line" and frankly I am sick of it. This is a weather forum, We are to be able to talk weather. Especially those that have paid the $5 fee to become a memeber; speaking of which I feel really sorry for those guys/gals that have paid and are not able to get their $ worth.

This does not make sense to me.... hell, lets just keep kicking everybody and then maybe ST can really go to that private area 51 AKA: CFDG

This is insane and I call upon any mod and or even Tim V. to expain this one away.

You want memebers to start dropping like flies....keep this stupid **** up

You wouldn't speak to somebody face to face like that, so why do it in a forum?

Personally I agree that there should be a healthy range of contributors, contributions and posters in a forum. But there's no place for plain out and out rudeness. No matter how cheesed off you are.

Bottom line: even if you pay 5 bucks to join, this is A PRIVATE FORUM. There's no free speech here. The owner can ban you for typing "is". There are stated policies regarding conduct and language.

If you pay 5 bucks to enter an amusement park, that doesn't give you "rights". None, zip, zilch, notta. Doesn't mean you can then go up to other people in the park and verbally attack them and use foul language!

Now, if the owner of a private enterprise says it's OK for everyone to engage in a verbal free for all, then that's fine too!

Well said, Lanny. I agree 100%. I would think that once you pay a fee, then you are entitled to rights. If not, then why pay the fee?

As a matter of fact I certainly would/have and will continue to do so in the future. But that is what makes me different from most. Thats just who I am. I refuse to lie down and take a any sort of an ass kicking without speaking my mind or putting up a fight. (Feel free to thank my Mother and Father for that one) And to me, ST (the mods) as well as Tim V. are and have been asking us to lie down....makes no sense to me

Having said my piece at the beginning, I had planned not to say anything further. But I want to be clear that I have no problem with healthy debate, the operative word being healthy. Such debate, even when it grows intense, is a virtue of forums.

However, to repeat my initial words, "plain talk is not the same thing as rudeness. You can speak your mind without being mean-spirited, offensive, or disrespectful of others." My concern has been the ad hominem attacks that I've witnessed on this forum at times, and the motives that energize them. I just don't see that anything good comes out of these flame fests. Whatever else this latest one produced, my guess is that its main result is a good number of hurt, angry feelings, and evidently some banned members. It didn't have to happen that way.

You know I would think the community would police itself sometimes on this, there is a picture on Facebook that a few ST members thought it was funny to do a little photoshop, then rub it in.

Obviously there are no controls on who talks about what on FB, and thats fine and dandy until you drag said person in by tagging them in said photo. Is this ST's problem, heck no... its the chasers.

ST likes to make problems disapear however in reality they just shove the problem on other sites, my chat has been real busy because ST banned everyone from here.

Dan, is this directed at all members?
Before you give Joey or anyone else for that matter this type of ultimatum, IMO it might be a good idea to discuss this with Tim. You just might get what your asking for which could mean many many members dropping like flies. This what I was trying to hint at earlier.
IMO, Joey has just as much right to be posting/asking questions as the next guy and I don't think what he said was bad or meant in a bad way.

No offense Dan, but, this is exactly the kind of stuff I was refering to.
