Al was both a great guy and a wonderful scientist.

I remember getting to meet and listen to both Dowell and Moller at a Symposium on the campus of OU back in 1998, was such a great experience getting to hear them both and meet them. I still have pictures that I took that day of the event.

I never did meet Al… I did read everything he wrote though. What a loss to our community to be taken by such a horrible disease…

I had the fortune to meet them quite often, especially when we stopped at NWS offices to get data. I remember one chase near DDC when things got going earlier than expected while we were at the NWS office. Both Chuck and Al volunteered to assist the office until they could call in more staff.
