Abandoned chaser vehicle in OK..............

Hey all,

Found this video brosing YouTube. It's amazing this guy caught Andy's truck flipping over. I wathced the video in 1080p full screen and it's clear that they are driving backwards, then the truck flips. .It's amazing that this was caught on tape.. Look at around 1:45.. Glad everyone is OK. I met Andy for my first time this past year, and he seemed very cool and easy to talk to and from what other things I hear about him, it surprises me that people on here think he was being reckless.

Guessing you live by the motto "Better safe than sorry." huh? In my opinion if you play it safe you're sorry. Living life on the edge makes it more exciting no matter what the circumstance or activity is. Leave your comfort zone & try it some time when you're not being judgmental of others and their actions.

Why go through all the trouble of base jumping, mountain climbing, or up close storm chasing? You want a thrill, just get a gun, one bullet, spin the chamber, and pull.

Personally, I like "better safe than sorry." Because I look forward to the next time (which is what most young, stupid people have no concept of in 2011). And there's a way to chase close and be safe, which takes a helluva lot more experience and skill than just driving blindly into circulations. But that's a whole other conversation I've had 34,000 times on here and don't care to have again.

i was filming the same tornado from a ridge from about 2 or 3 miles away. I got in place and watched it develop fromthe wall cloud on. I just stayed parked on the dirt road didnt atempt to chase this one. And just because you are from a certain place means nothing besides your ignorance.........anyways there are always people in every group that arent to smart. Not saying this guy was one. happens! Just got to pay more attention.

I didn’t intend for it to seem like I was insulting Andy, I wasn’t, and perhaps I could have worded it differently but that doesn’t change my opinion. And I apologize if it did seem as though I was hating on or insulting Andy.

It is clear that the accident wasn’t a direct result of the tornado, but given the circumstances it obviously was a direct result of being dangerously close to the tornado which put Andy into a position of having to drive fast in reverse resulting in the accident presumably to get out of harm’s way.

If Andy hadn’t been so close to the tornado and played it safe, chances are that wouldn’t have happened. With so many people wanting to be known as an “extreme chaser” by getting so close to a tornado, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. I’m surprised a death hasn’t occurred yet.

I guess I never understood the whole wanting to be just a few yards away from a tornado. I would rather sit back, a mile or two and watch it from a safe distance without the stress of trying to get that close while trying to keep safe.

If people want to chase like that, I have no problem with it, but when something like that happens caused either directly or indirectly of the tornado, people shouldn’t be surprised and I’m not going to have much sympathy for it. Just hope that flipping a vehicle was worth the experience of being close to a tornado.

I have a feeling that had this been someone other than Andy, someone who isn't known, the tune here would probably be different and people's opinion would be similar to mine.

I couldn't agree more with these two statements about the whole issue. Its always funny to see how certain people can get away with stuff, just like a certain chaser being run over by a wedge on May 24th. This community definitely plays the favoritism card on every issue dealt.

I'm not knocking his chasing style, as its a style I too enjoy and I believe its everyones right to chase how they want, but I do agree that chasing that way increases the risk of stuff like that happening and thus will get no sympathy from me. I am glad he is ok, and insurance will cover the truck so he'll have something bigger and badder next year Im sure. Life goes on...

LOL, that's what I thought was the funniest thing about this subject. For me I could care less anyway if he wants to get close or not, more power to him as long as he isn't endangering other people, which he's not it appears. However, as other people have said if it was some "nobody" that did this everyone would ranting and raving about how big of a deal it was and the thread would probably be 12 pages already by now. Oh well, hopefully everyone is about ready to move on by now.

P.S. Why is it people continue to post the same video in this thread?? Doesn't anyone read the thread beforehand?

I just think its funny to see how many people that weren't their jump all over Andy for backing up down a paved! road under 20mph,, He was backing up and went the ditch,, the back of the car sunk in the pudding like mud and moment turned the car over, he doesn't even have a scratch on him. Either something broke or he hit a bump, pothole or hydroplaned and then the wheels grabbed. It's very easy to turn over a car in reverse the front wheels are the back wheels. He gets close but honestly that's how you make money chasing like it or not. Just like the most extreme videos of people getting hurt and killed all the time people like to watch that kinda thing. It seems like everyone jumps to conclusion with out looking at the facts.. He went on tv and told it how it was as his mistake.

From the video and considering the situation, it appears more like he was backing up quickly to return to the road intersection in order to keep up with the tornado and possibly make a second approach on the other road. If it had been me, that would have been my reason for backing up. It doesn't look like there was any dangerous situation regarding the tornado. Again, I wasn't there, so I could be wrong.

I'm assuming he was facing west, the tornado was tracking northeast, and he was trying to get back to the north-south road to get the tornado crossing that road to the north.

I don't think that's what he's getting at.

Also, the difference between Andy and "some nobody" is that we know Andy knows what he is doing that close up. Something went wrong once, I guarantee he knows the dangers.
