Abandoned chaser vehicle in OK..............

Amazing....this thread would not exist if Andy would have never turned his vehicle over backing down a road.Anyone could of done it...tornado on the ground or not.People do this everyday while driving forward and texting!

I just get a kick out of a couple of you on here honestly. We all like the same thing, chasing storms. I love storm chasing. Why is 1/3 of this thread about whether or not if it was some nobody or new chaser, they would get thrown under the bus?

Not sure if you took my comment that way or not. All I was implying was I find it funny how this community plays favorites. You know damn well people would be singing a different tune if it was some noob as opposed to you, which I think its wrong. We should all be held to the same standards. Thats all I was trying to say. That being said my personal view is just as yours. I would feel the same way no matter who it was, be it their first chase or their 100th.

We take risks, and sometimes sh*t happens. Life moves on...

Glad you're ok though, if I was there I would certainly have stopped to help.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. I hope Andy didn't take my comment the wrong way either, I was pretty much agreeing with what Adam had said at the time about how much bigger a deal everyone would have made it had it been someone not everyone knew.

Anyway, hopefully everybody is moving on now as this really isn't a big deal.

I'm going to add my two cents to this thread too. I've only chased for 4 years now (so I'm pretty young experience-wise), but I've been amazed at how cut-throat a few members of the storm-chasing community can be. I'm not talking about when someone gets bashed for something out-of-control...I'm referring to responsible chasers that get bashed because they slide off the road in a minor accident, get stuck in a field, or choose to chase close when they clearly have the skills to do so. Another example is the occasional bashing someone gets just because they haven't been chasing for 20+ years.

Folks, when it comes down to it, there are some pretty basic ethical lines that are involved in being a responsible chaser. As long as chasers are, for the most part, ethical in what they do, why is there a need to sit here (or at any local restaurant after a chase) and bash the hell out of them? For the last 20 years, I've been heavily involved in several small, tight-knit sports/hobbies, but I've never encountered the level of bashing and infighting that seems to take place in storm chasing.

My theory in life, and it has served me well: spend more time lifting others up (than bringing them down), and you'll reap incredible returns.

And not to mention, it's a great way to keep yourself happy too. :D

Thank you, Bryan. Funny thing is, I got out of my last hobby (road racing exotic cars) because I got tired of the huge egos. Not to be a jerk, but I would have NEVER thought that something as GEEKY as chasing WEATHER would attract such mean spirited people. Lets face it guys, we're not going to pick up babes in the bar by telling her about the last RFD you got hit by. We have a love of something that is pretty dang geeky! You also have to be pretty intelligent to be any good at this. You would think that educated people could get along better. Maybe we are all socially retarded. I don't know. But I remember my families preacher getting up one Sunday at church and reading the riot act to all the old women in our church about how he was not going to tolerate their constant bickering and judging of each other ANY MORE! He went on a tirade that must have lasted 20 minutes, and as an 11 year old boy I was sitting there IN AWE because the adults were getting in trouble! But I promise you, the old ladies in the church cut it out! SO........You guys need to watch it, or I'll bring Brother David Williams in here to straighten us ALL out! LOL!

I guess I'm an exception to this. I never did good in school, and ended up failing out of college cause I sucked at taking tests. Yet I just went out of my way thoughout my life to learn about weather, because it just fascinated me so much. Chasing just sorta helped feed and sample my wandering mind. I've always had a good knowledge of navigation and traveling, so that helped me be a little more successful. I don't find myself a geek when it comes to weather, cause I probably wouldn't qualify. Just tossing that out there.

The admins have been reviewing some of the posts in this thread because we felt some of the statements were borderline as far as rules are concerned. In light of the fact that most members who had a strong opinion of what happened have apologized (whether directly or indirectly) and the thread has righted itself, we are going to let the thread stand as is for the time being. However, it has sparked some serious discussion amongst the admin team and what we want everyone to be aware of is that it is not okay to engage in name calling of any particular member of Stormtrack. It is okay to discuss the behavior associated with the accident and whether or not you agree or disagree with the events that transpired, however, we are monitoring this thread rather closely and any further comments that clearly cross the lines or break the rules regarding shaming or humiliating another member will be dealt with accordingly. Please understand it is our role to promote friendly interaction amongst the members of this forum and that is the main reason we felt it necessary to point out the difference between direct and indirect commentary against any member of Stormtrack.

I used to play music quite a bit. I've often observed when you get two drummers together they will get all gushy talking about their setup and looking at one another's kits.

Bass players will sit and show one another different runs and techniques and literally get off on learning something new.

Guitar players will act friendly face to face then scrutinize each others chops and dog one another afterwards.

Singers will be fighting before the night is over.

Storm chasers remind me of guitar players who think they can sing. :D

Don't take this post too seriously, because it isn't.

Thanks Wes, your sense of humor was just in the nick of time and brought some much needed levity to the thread!

Wow guys, can't we all just get along!!

I had a well known chaser threaten my life and make horrible, vulgar comments about my wife and children recently on Facebook because he disagreed with how close we like to get to tornadoes. I've seen some of the comments on here made toward other chasers and can't help but ask, are chasers just jerks in general?

I think the answer is no. Most guys I've met out chasing seem like great people. Men that would go out of their way to lend a helping hand. I think the jerks are just loud mouth morons. The good guys let their actions speak louder than any negative words ever could. I just felt I needed to say that. Don't know why really.

Wait.....did I just read that right? Being an ass to YOU is one thing......But someone went after your wife and children? Seriously?

Yeah, I've got a lot of family in law enforcement in the area and have talked to them about it. It seems some comments on Facebook can be criminal if worded right.

By the way, anyone ever notice when the SDS kicks in how much the drama goes crazy in chaserville?

Seems like its around even when it is chase season. Humans are rational at times, and for some its their way or no way when it comes to chasing. Me? Meh, I just worry about what I'm seeing through my windshield or viewfinder. Couldn't care what others are doing or how close/far they get. Unless someone needs assistance or its an emergency situation, I just worry about me and those chasing with me.
