I woke up this morning to an MCD across Illinois suggesting that scattered thunderstorms would develop across the area shortly. I know there was a risk for funnel clouds and brief tornadoes, so I decided to tgo out and see what I could find. I didnt have to go far...
I stopped at an intersection about 5 miles outside of town and not 5 minutes after pulling over a funnel cloud began developing out of the base of the storm. I got on the phone with the NWS in Lincoln, just as a second funnel descended next to the original funnel cloud. This second funnel didn't last more than a minute or two, but the main funnel lasted almost 10 minutes before roping out.
I followed the storm were another 30 minutes or so until it died out.
