Tornadoes are not uncommon in the San Luis Valley, but today's tornadoes seem to have been a bit larger or longer lived than the usual. As is typical for these cases, storms fired along a boundary and thanks to mountain blockage, radar was of little help for identifying the culprit. For more details (and radar) see:

Im no expert on this phenomena, but i imagine you could analogize these cases to the
San Jouquin cases in the central valley of CA. Hope someone had their video camera out!
