Starting a Now thread with a tornado watch for much of Iowa. There is a cell south of Des Moines that has shown a TVS from time to time with strong, but broad, rotation just east of Interstate 35.

Other storms strengthening in the area.

There was a confirmed tornado with the storm south of Des Moines but at the moment there is no reported tornadoes on the ground. That is a huge storm tracking to the north east.

might want to add illinois and indiana to this thread:

just heard reports of windows in the downtown skyscrapers being blown out in chicago, and also pieces of cement falling down onto the streets and sidewalks. also a report of a 92 mph wind gust in laporte indiana.

might want to add illinois and indiana to this thread:

I guess Michigan should be added as well. Looks like the I-94 corridor and south will be under the gun. Like Robert said, it appears Lake Michigan has taken some of the punch out of the northern part of the line. However, discrete cells forming ahead of the main line indicate plenty of instability to work with once back on land.

I did not add those states because, as I understand it, the "Now" thread rules dictate that different weather systems in different states have their own thread.

If I was not correct, moderators please do your thing!

Well, IWX shows it bumping back up in intensity. It looks like areas along and south of I-96 (western MI) and 1-69 (eastern MI) are going to get hammered. Radar presentation still looking great, and LOT showing 50-60knts as low as 3k FT on VAD... slightly weaker at MKX. This tells me that there's good inflow into the back of the MCS.

Have been on the eastern cell in southern IA riding the OFB. It has an HP look and we have been struggling to get east around its south side - have been mostly west of it. Nothing much interesting going on back here other then an occasional brief lowering.

Pretty cool line just went through the Fort Wayne area....

Lots of 60 mph gusts.

It lost some hail punch as it arrived but the winds were amazing. Take a look at the Base Velocity from IWX.

Here is the Base Velocity from IWX
