5/23/08 NOW: KS/NE/CO/OK/WY/SD

It seems as though the squall line and all three cells just weakened considerably the last few frames. Still nice looking cells, just not the same intensity they were a few minutes ago.

This was probably due to the squall line passing directly over the DDC radar site. Just a guess.

Squall line in SC KS seems to be morphing back into individual supercells......amazing how the one that went over DDC is now showing strong rotation.

Eric Perozo is on a tornado south of Ellinwood. Stovepipe.

I doubt this storm holds together much longer and they will break off for the cell over protection.

Just a heads up; we passed through most of Ellis about a half hour ago and most of the town seems to be intact and unharmed. The power was out in most of the town, there was some minor damage with downed tree branches, and it appeared that one house might have taken a hit (either that or they were doing some serious remodeling), but the town is not wiped from the map.

Stopping in Hays for the night. I looked at the radar on TV, and the line still means business, especially looking at an appendage about 10-15 minutes ago in Reno County.

I didn't go through Ellis, but there were three semis blown off the road west of Hays on eastbound I-70 (as of 30 minutes ago). Still cleaning that mess up as we speak.

That is good to hear. I was sitting almost at the very edge of Ellis and I did not see a tornado. That does not mean there wasn't one, but I was trying to figure out how I mised all the damage that was being talked about. The second one behind it was on the ground just north of I-70 as I finally saw it in a lightning flash right in front of me within 100 yards. Glad the dirt roads were mostly dry as I was running close to 80 trying to get out of the path. Another chaser said it passed directly behind me and another said they saw it go by also.

odd...tornado warning was lifted for Reno county at 12:13 even though there was a tornado report at 12:11 and another at 12:14. Hope there wasn't a tornado on the ground heading for Hutchinson as was reported!
