Look to the north folks. Nice couplet heading for the southern part of downtown STL. Lowest scan on the cell (1875 ft) is showing great rotation....

High Risk was result of LZK 00Z sounding and current tornado outbreak occuring over AR. Look at some of these indices. Lapse rate is pretty much dry adiabatic btwn 700-500mb. That combined with 3000 CAPE and very strong directional shear in lowest levels will do it.

my sister is off the east side of Little Rock. I am watching grlevel3 and it looks like it will miss her by 3 miles to the west. It is going to be close. Where did you get the reports of debris from? I need up to date reports if there is some place other than the regular NWS site where you can get them

Ch. 7 out of LZK now relaying unconfirmed reports of fatalities in the Scotland area. I believe the reports were via HAM radio.

Confirmed damage with the Little Rock storm now, and Ch. 7 has a guy who has been following this storm/tornado in the dark for about and hour now - name's Michael Hooks or something. I think he might have just been in the circulation somewhat - he's broadcasting some low-res video. He was on the north side of the circulation for the longest time but I'm not sure if he knew it. Weird.

I'm thinking maybe AR needs to be added to the thread heading??

I'm back from a fruitless chase along I-70 and getting ready to take cover if that couplet about to cross into St. Louis County keeps coming this way. On the current track it would pass close to Edwardsville in about 45 minutes. There are reports of a damage to a barn and trees in Jefferson county right near where it passed, so there may well be a rain-wrapped tornado on the ground now.

The first mesocyclone in the St. Louis storm is being choked off, there's a new one forming to the southeast. Result is that it should pass to the south of the metro zone. (click to animate)

TORNADO ON THE GROUND CONFIRMED BY SPOTTERS AND GENERAL PUBLIC NEAR GALLOWAY AND LITTLE ROCK AIRPORT HAS CLOSED. ATC HAS EVACUATED THE TOWER.
