4/25/08 NOW: IL/IA/WI/MO and TX

Storms are firing ahead of Cold Front/Squall line in far NE Missouri. Considering that this is ahead of the big push, I could see these really explode as they move into NW Illinois later in the day. Squall line making nice progression towards Miss. River, but nothing spectacular looking. Would bet that best storms will be NW IL into WI.

The SPC has upped the tornado chances to 10% over southern WI and northern IL. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html The best shear was set to arrive in western IL/sw WI starting at about 21Z, so it's not surprising that there are a couple of tornado warnings on the IL/IA border right now.

Looks like the cells are too close together to get any good tornado potential out of them, stuff in WIsconsin running out of the good helicity (ATW TAMDAR hodo pretty straight) Seems more linear than tornadic this afternoon.

At 430pm a discreet cell out ahead of the main line produced 1" hail at my house (7miles NNE of RFD airport) and golfball size just a couple miles east of here..It didn't last long moving NE at 50mph..
Looks like the next wave will produce some very heavy rain some smaller hail and perhaps gusty winds..

Just got home from job interview, and it looks like I didn't miss much. A few cells in eastern Iowa produced briefly, but that's about it.

Storms look to be on a downward trend, so I guess I'll just stay home.

Cell in Columbia County, Wisconsin still going strong. Multiple reports of tornadoes between Portage, Wyocena and Freisland. If it holds together it should cross lake Winnebago between Oshkosh and Fond du Lac. I may hop in the car for a local chase if it looks promising.

Not the right state but is anybody looking at that beast down by Temple, Tx. right now??? Spotters are reporting a tornado IN the town of Belton!!! It is moving due south. One of the best hooks I think I have seen on radar. At least since Greensburg. Also grapefruit size hail reported.

I am currently btw Granger and Weir, TX. I was in Belton when the hook moved through there. There were a number of funnels and some really low rapid rotation but I never spotted a touchdown. It is very possible I missed one while relocating though. That area is also very hard to chase in because of all the trees and terrain around Belton Lake.

I was on the local weathernet earlier, and was north of the tornado warned cell in Bell Co. when a report came across that DPS spotted a tornado on the ground near Morgans Point. I was just north of the sup exiting McLennan Co. as it raged south. Still appears to be a strong cell with a tornado warning going into Williamson Co.

About 10 minutes ago there were still reports coming over the net of a wall cloud still associated with this storm. Wall cloud was being reported near Hutto, Tx around 8:25-8:30 CDT.

EDIT: Also heard reports of numerous vehicles with windows knocked out in Bell Co. area.

Sitting in Taylor Texas, saw great inflow just northwest of town about 20 mintues ago. Just heavy rain and small hail now. Will keep posted...

I wound myself under the meso on the southwest side of Davenport. Modest rotation, fairly high base. Meh. Maybe next time. Or I could just chase snow tomorrow...you know...REALLY soft hail.
