Can anyone confirm on whats going on down in Lubbock? Reports are coming in that there is a confirmed tornado on the ground heading in to the city of Lubbock...................

Yea I was wondering why there was no discussion about this... from what the Tornado Warning says it is not on the ground constantly but is "hopping" around... I know there are people on these forums from Lubbock (they are probably out chasing it heheh). This seems to be one of those surprise occurances. Current surface obs show temps in the area in the low 60s with mid to upper 50 Td's... that will keep LCLs low I guess. Dynamic forcing actually appears to be quite weak. I guess you could say there is a dryline across the western panhandle but nothing impressive.

EDIT: It looks like the Lubbock area is at the front entrance region of a 500mb jetmax associated with the leftovers of the 500mb low in the SW US.. that would be the mechanism for convection right there. Tornado warning statement says it is moving north, almost stationary (at 10mph) near 98th and I-27.

Just took a quick glance at the radar out of lubbock and the rotation is fairly evident just to the south of the city.... I bet Dave Drummond is all over it....

I can affirm that. I was just woke up from my nap and witnessed a large funnel that dissipated over woodrow about a half mile east of my house. That's about 8 miles due south of Lubbock. There are a large number of reports of funnels coming in all over the county. Got to scoot.

There was a outbreak of landspouts in and around the city of Lubbock this afternoon. My eyeballs saw only one near touchdown directly over the community of woodrow. This was a low energy event, I think radar confirmed that. There were other breif touchdowns reported in the SE of the city and county, as well as near Texas Tech Univeristy. Conditions have been ideal for landspouts and there is some more redevelopment to the east but the the show is over for me, I've got to get to work. There was a report of some very minor damage in the SE and maybe around the campus, if I see anything on my way in, I'll get a shot.

Things are really starting to fire in Texas. GR AE showing 2.88 hail and 2 tornado warnings

AT 455 PM CDT...THE TULIA POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED A TORNADO
TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A TORNADO 10 MILES WEST OF
INTERSTATE 27...APPROXIMATELY 9 MILES WEST OF TULIA. THE STORM
PRODUCING THIS TORNADO IS MORNING NORTH AT 10 MPH.

Looks like the tornado or rotation is moving towards Pecos Texas. I hope nobody is injured from this storm.

EDIT: In the Panhandel near Tulia I think the town is called police reported the tornado had lifted. Good news for everyone in Tulia.
