Observed the nice supercell from Harrison to Chadron, NE, with Bob Smith and the Tempest Tours group. The storm spun up a slender tornado for a couple of minutes a few miles to our south as the supercell approached from the southwest. Images and accounts for this chase and yesterday's near Presho, SD, are here.

I chased near Western South Dakota this evening and followed a "Radar Indicated" Tornado warned cell for some time. The storm was around 8 miles north of Philip, SD.
I waited for the rotation area to pass by a fair distance before moving into the rear/left position.

There were very few if any road options.
A large rope tornado formed on the western part of the cell and moved from right to left.

The long rope tornado crossed the road, which I believe was quite close to my vehicle. It was approximately the size of the width of the road (35 yards).

I repositioned and managed to file a report and contacted emergency services to verify the sighting.

Image taken after repositioning.

NOTE: The GRL3, GPS position is very close to where I was at the time of the tornado crossing the road. (Radar image was current)

FULL REPORT AND PHOTOS

I chased E WY into W NE latter in the evening. I felt the upslope play had a better chance of firing a storm since the cap was weaker earlier in the day. Target was Lusk, WY and headed west on HWY 20 towards the mountains once storms fired then followed the line east as it made its way into NE. I chased the tail-end storm into NE and intercepted the tornado south of Harrison, NE. I had to flee from large hail but caught the tornado as we left.
