12/14/06 NOW: Washington / Oregon Pacific Storm System

Billy Griffin

Storm rapidly moving inland now, with sustained winds of ~ 35 mph, gusts to over 50 mph. And much worse yet to come. Reports of some power outages already coming in for the Seattle, Tacoma, Auburn, and Everett areas. Mountain snows have resulted in almost all passes to be temporarily closed. Blizzard Warnings in effect for the mountains of WA / OR. Squall line just moved over greater Seattle and is in Tacoma/Puyallup right now - hail reports and CG from Seattle down through Tacoma & Olympia.

More widespread hail reports are coming in to the NWS Seattle office. Radar appears to show heaviest precip areas now moving into the foothills of the Cascade Mtn. range, so radar interpretation will be difficult as precip will quickly change over to heavy snow. Definitely a great display of cloud-to-ground and cloud-to-cloud lightning moments ago!

Winds now sustained at over 40, gusting to 56 (mph).
