Spring temps have been above 30C here and when the LLJ kicked in on Thursday night, bringing the moisture back, things looked set for some serious storms.

Was trying to chase some storms south of Johannebsurg late on Friday and got caught out by the city traffic as I was trying to break out of the rush hour at 4pm. Decided to turn back just as a supercell whacked straight across the eastern suburbs. So things werent all that bad after all.:)

The storm closed the international airport for 3 hours, dropped trees and powerlines, shutting entire parts of the city down.

It even produced a great wall cloud that hovered over the Wanderers Cricket Stadium, threatening the NZ vs South Africa cricket game...

Drove up a hill to get some good views of the storm passing by...

And got hammered by the hail on the way down the hill. Tried to take cover in some trees, but the hail was tearing the vegitation out and dropping it onto my car.
