1/2/07 NOW: WA

Urban and river flooding now occurring over much of western Washington. Winds are now gusting to ~ 50mph, with more tree and power line damage in the Seattle-Tacoma areas. With already saturated grounds and an unstable power grid from the storm of two weeks ago, concerns for more damage are increasing. Currently here in Seattle, moderate rain with some surprising cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. Temps are close to 60F!

Latest news: widespread power outages now reported, mainly around the islands of Puget Sound and in the foothills on the western slope of the Cascades.

In addition, the avalanche threat is becoming very dangerous. I-90 was shut down during this afternoon's commute, to clear up some debris.

As the rains continue for the next several days, it could get much worse!

Much of the west side of town has now been evacuated, as of 04:00 PST. We're okay where we're at, but the Puyallup River continues to rise and the rains continue coming down. This has been a horrible year for flooding in the PNW.
