09/12/08 NOW: MO, KS

Just talked to Dick McGowan and he confirms a quick touch down 2 miles north of Greeley, KS before the storm was warned. He is still on the storm as it heads over Hillsdale Lake still following the meso.

The cell in Douglas Co. KS just north of Baldwin City looks like it is really starting to wrap up on radar. Confirmed damage to 3 houses from the first cell that went through that same county earlier.

The isolated cell now moving west of Sedalia looks well structured. Perfect little supercell on its way to the Marshall area eventually. The core should be passing over I-70 in the next ten to fifteen minutes.

In the city we are still socked in with no clear structure in view yet. I've decided to stay put and let these come to me rather than attempt a metro chase on a Friday afternoon at 5:00 pm. Storm bases should be coming into view in the next 20-30 minutes, I'm guessing.

South of the warm front from ks all the way to wv the air is rapidly destabilizing, could be a long evening for many as storms fire in the moist air.

Tor-Warning now extends up along I-35 all the way downtown, though it looks like that particular storm should graze the racetrack area in Wyandotte Co. Cu is firming up outside now. The grunge is still present, but I can finally make out some mid-level features. That southern cell has wrapped up quite a bit. Wonder if Dick is able to keep up with that thing. It's getting into city down there. Probably headed toward Grandview, looks like.

From KCTV channel 5:

EUDORA, Kan. -- Three severe thunderstorms blew through the west side of the Kansas City metropolitan area Friday evening, briefly dropping tornadoes in several areas. A tornado touched down near Eudora, Kan., according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Officers in that area were investigating reports of damage. A tornado touched down in DeSoto, Kan., and a tornado touched down near Bonner Springs, Kan. KCTV5 meteorologist Tom Wachs said he received reports of damage in the Bonner Springs area.

Saw a brief touchdown in Spring Hill, KS in Johnson county. Incredible structure with this beast, rivaled the best of the year for us (May 29 Beloit). Heading west on 151st now toward another Tor-warned cell. What a day!!!

The storm west of downtown is now moving north into Gladstone. At one point there was a very low feature that looked to possibly be in contact with the ground. The funnel shape and placement in the storm were right, but there was just no way for me to gauge rotation from here. Highly suspect, though. The film seemed to be dealing with the low contrast better than my eyes, believe it or not. Another cell still to the southwest that remains warned on its way into the city as well.
