 OK, now I am officially pi$$ed- I drove home today.....this happens a lot where the best tornadoes occur right when I leave....the worst was June 8, 2005 (Pampa, Allison). In any event congrats on a great storm/tornado. At least I saw the April 26 and June 6 tornadoes.....

You're pi$$ed. Try being 25 miles from the storm at the Elm Creek exit and missing the entire show. Kinda hard to top that one.

Radar Images from Aurora Tornado

I found some radar images relating to the Aurora NE tornado 06-17-09:

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=gid&storyid=28856&source=0

The following two images are radar shots showing the hook echoes:

I was up until 11 p.m. watching the storm on radar to see if it continues on Hwy 34 which will wind up in Lincoln NE. Fortunately the storm died out in Seward County at about midnight.

Congrats to all who chased and got great shots!! :D

Hey, does anyone know who AJ Fable is, the guy screaming his head off on the CNN iReport video of the Aurora tornado? The Nebraskan newspaper I work for wants to contact him since apparently he's a Nebraska chaser. Can't find hide nor hair of him here on Stormtrack or in on any of the chaser email lists I subscribe to.

Is that the guy that faked the tornado last year and sold the video to the AP? I remember that last name because someone said it was Fable's Fable.

i had to sit this one out(and today's) bc of a car accident i was in that caused $10,000 damage to my $2500 car:eek: the worst part is the lady ran the red light while i was making a turn in front of her, and somehow i'm at fault:mad: i almost took the wifes car out though, kinda wish i had now. great job though by everyone that was there. at least i got to see alot of live video feeds

Yes, its the same guy. Apparently the media is over the fact that he faked the video last year because TWC used his Aurora tornado video.

Good day all,

 OK, now I am officially pi$$ed- I drove home today.....this happens a lot where the best tornadoes occur right when I leave....

LOL man ... I feel IT too (the angst, ballz-tingling anger) ;-(

This week June 12-20 was blocked for my cancelled May 21-June 1 chase trip. The last weekend boss has us doing sys upgrade and said "no" to the trip as she went on 5 day cruise THIS week of all weeks.

2009 has NOT been a very nice year to some.

Aurora NE Farm Couple & 4 Kids Survives Tornado!!

I was glad to read about the Aurora NE farm couple and their four kids surviving their close encounter with the EF-2 Aurora NE tornado last Wednesday:

http://journalstar.com/articles/2009/06/19/news/local/doc4a3ac01140da0640171299.txt

Another story in the same front page of the paper commented on the chaser convergence following the Aurora NE tornado:

http://journalstar.com/articles/2009/06/19/news/local/doc4a3ac818439e4458119029.txt

Cutline for the attached thumbnail below:
The Juzyk home lays in shambles, four miles west of Aurora, Thursday, June 18, 2009. The home was totally destroyed by a tornado Wednesday night, along with Jeff Juzyk's construction business. All six members of the family, Juzyk, his wife, Stacie, and four children, escaped injury by reaching their basement seconds before the tornado struck, Juzyk said. WILLIAM LAUER/Lincoln Journal Star

In the article, the farmer said he stepped outside and saw a group of storm chasers parked in his driveway. He took one look at the brown, swirling monster heading straight for his rented farmhouse. He ran inside, grabbed his wife and their four young kids and took shelter in the basement. They survived the tornado with no obvious injuries.

The house was severly damaged, farm buildings destroyed and family car was totaled. I commented to my wife the farm house almost looked like the house left over after the final scene of "Twister", minus the roof!!

On another note, CBS Evening News last night, aired one of the storm chaser's video during their news cast.

MODS: You can stick this on the front page. This is a "feel good" story for storm chasers!!

EDIT: NWS assessment of Aurora tornado said the pet food plant was NOT hit by the tornado:

Has anyone returned to the area, or was anyone here part of the damage survey? It seems there was another farmstead that took a direct hit early in the tornado track, my memory and video show a shelter-belt with a few grain bins about 1/4-1/2 mile South of hwy 34 shortly after the tornado crossed the hwy South the first time, in fact its the area seen being engulfed early in the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is1gP2BhFXo I watched the house that has been well documented (pic above) get hit, and saw debris flying around the tornado from that impact. But that first farmstead I have heard very little about, curious as to if there wasn't a home there, or if the tornado just wasn't intense enough to cause significant damage, sure sounded like it was tearing stuff up, once I shut up on the video you can crank the volume and hear the pitch of the tornado change as it moves over that area, in fact it sounded like metal and tin being torn up. Anyone know the story with that place?

Took this shot-just a few days ago outside of Aurora,ne-still cleaning up, the big plant that was hit still shows some damage, and the line of brand new telephone poles tell a silent tale that something had happened.
