Watching this cell moving NE about 2:15 p.m today as a line of cells rolled over the metroplex. Radar indicated weak rotation in the area shown in this pic, just south of downtown Dallas.

Some of the most amazing cloud structures I've ever seen. Visiting a neighbor at our local hospital, saw the sky and had to capture on digital and video. (Taken in south Tarrant County, 1:15 p.m., CDT.) Here are two shots, looking to the north/northwest, as well as a video link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rPKyr57v_E

An interesting morning and afternoon in the D/FW Area. I "chased" two miles down the road to a nice spot at my church to grab some of the photos you will see below. This was just in front of several thunderstorms that were approaching and/or developing just to my west and overhead. We got some much needed rain today. A very nice photo made in part by gravity waves.

EDIT: Unfortunately, due to the high quality and size of the photos, I am unable to post them on StormTrack due to the size restrictions. I apologize.

I saw the same cloud formation a little further North in the Metroplex. The pictures don't do justice to how amazing this was. Can anyone tell from the pictures what exactly causes this type of formation?

Heard it was mammatus clouds (!), but also heard it could have been gravity waves?!? Pictures don't do it justice, you're right, so beautiful in a scary sort of way (at least to ME) LOL
