Your Best Lightning Shot of 2008?

Hi everyone!

Well, this one isn't from 2008 but I really didn't shoot many stills this year (so far!). I took this shot near McCook, NE in June 07'. If you look just to the right of the strike you can see two horses grazing in the field :)

This is definitely my favorite shot so I figured even though it wasn't from this season, I'd post it anyway.

I think I got the best shot I'm going to get all year about... Thirty minutes ago. This strike landed about a mile or two away and startled the hell out of me. It had been all high obscured cloud to cloud stuff up until then which is why I'm piddling around at such a high angle and only 24mm. f5.6 was definitely not the optimal setting for this and consequently the shot is pulled two stops.

I went wider after that shot but the storm turned off the lightning machine.

I've been having no luck with lightning this year. Those few storms that do stick around past sunset have had completely obscured lightning (Up until now this was the best I had managed).

I managed my best nighttime lightning shots just last night! Little isolated cells with nothing more than some heavy rain, put on quite a show actually... Two of them below, the rest can be seen here.

Some truely amazing shots in this thread - why I never signed up before I don't know! The attached shot "Rain Dance" was from June 12th in West Illinois, a storm that contributed to the Iowa floods. Hopefully I'll make it to Arizona in Aug for more lightning.

This was my first spring with a DSLR, a nikon D40 so I had plenty of time to expirement, though not enough lightning, here are my best of summer 2008...

The night I lost all my pics to the lightning I was out getting these. The final shot was another attempt at sunrise lightning. I had just missed a CG right in front of me because i was wiping rain off my lens... Click them for larger and see the rest from that night on my Flickr as well
