Interesting... Somehow I could have guessed that if there were only 2 "Cat 5" winter storms they'd be the SuperStorm of 1993 and 1996. In addition, the when I read "northeast winter storms" I immediately thought of Kocin and Uccellini, which is pretty good since I just saw that they developed the scale.

Yeah, it's more than obvious NCEP/HPC is *VERY* biased to the northeast. The only time they ever update their Storm Summary product is when a storm hits the East Coast. I don't care if ALL of northern TX got 24 inches of snow, you wouldn't see an update.

The last snow that came through MI received a SCC, and days before they covered TX/OK/KS in it.

Wow... Well, I can give them the benefit of the doubt -- I haven't checked it much (if at all) this winter. Perhaps last year was just their test run using the East Coast or somethin.
