Hey friends,

I am setting up a new chase laptop for this spring. I have in the past used GPS gate or xport to share my GPS among spotter network, GR, etc

I heard that Windows 8.1 does the splitting and sharing automatically.

Has anyone else heard this? Confirmed this?

The latest version of GpsGate works with Windows 8.1. I'm using it on my current machine. Make sure you download a new copy of it though even if the version numbers match. There are updates that were added that allow it to work on 8.1.

Yes, you do. All of your old software like GrLevel3, Streets and Trips, and Street Atlas is still looking for COM ports and hasn't been update for new Windows 8 features. Besides, GpsGate has a nice logging feature that every chaser should be utilizing.

I recall a time where three ports would work on the trial. Last year though, I had to reinstall gpsgate's trial version and I wasn't able to get the third port to work.

I believe they limited the amount of ports on the free version now those sneaky mofos. I had to upgrade when I re installed it as well. Not a big deal for a 1 time fee, and I agree, the logger is awesome.

I bought my license back in 2008 and it's still valid, so that is pretty awesome. Not much software I bought in 2008 still works with the latest valid version. The BU-353 still works if you use an older version of the drivers (google is your friend) otherwise you'll want to buy a new GPS puck BU-353S4

UPDATE

Setting up my new Windows 8.1 Laptop right now. I installed GSPGATE FREE and got 3 ports to work. I am running GR3, Streets and Trips, and SpotterNetwork

Just FYI

FYI, I started using "GPS Tracker" for google maps. Streets and Trips is going EOS this year.

Works with GPSGate just fine.

Spaghetti plots AND logs.

It works but the reviews on it are terrible despite being an editors choice. Let's see what happens.

I'm astounded at how easy it was to set GPSGate up with Win 8.1!!! I'd warned Clyve that I'd probably spend an hour swearing at the computer (if the last few years was anything to go by)......and I had it up and sorted in about 3.5 minutes - but you do have to redownload the software as the old software just wont do it)!!!! Maybe Win 8.1 isn't the devil it's made out to be :)
