  • After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

What are some famous sayings from tornado videos?

Avatar to the left is the moment I speak of  lol

We have all said that one a few times. Hard to market video (or show kids) when you forget your recordig and start throwing some "adult" language out. You should hear me when I get caught in baseball hail which has happened a few times.

lol.. I just drop in some bumper music and delete out the audio.. :P

But you are right though.. This season I shall bite my tongue.. hehehe

My chase partner, Dave Bellmore likes to use the sentence enhancers a LOT, which gets kinda old, as it does take away from the video eventually. For anyone who actually has my chase video from this year, you'll notice that at least...especially July 13th...freaking little marble sized hail and he's droppin the F-bomb left and right. Maybe if he wasn't chasing in a stupid sports car.

Sorry, I didnt add any quotes, but just added into the current side discussion.

Maybe I'm different, but I have never really concerned myself with adult language on chase video. A simple, easy-to-see rating code on a video tape or DVD is enough of a warning for any younger viewers, IMO. Swearing is a part of chasing, if you have a pulse. Sooner or later we all say something that we'd not normally blurt out in a day-care. Admittedly, some of us are worse than others, but overall I don't think swears take away from video. If anything else, I'm not targeting children for my audience to begin with. I guess a lot of kids dig chase video, from what hear, but those kids have responsible parents who know the level of adult language on a given video (the ones that are marked with a rating anyway).

I wasn't sure whether an R or a PG-13 rating would be best for my video, but I eventually went with PG-13. There are a few GDs, an F-bomb or two, but overall the video's pretty clean. Now, my older stuff, well that's another story

Oh, I'm by no means saying a chase video should be completely clean for all ages, but I also find the quality to be higher, when there isnt someone cussing their brains out next to you over some tiny hailstones, or whatnot. There are certainly some situations that are going to inevitably require some sentence enhancers, but there comes a time when I wonder if it's too much. This thread's topic has officially shifted, lol.

I enjoy Tim Marshall in his 1999 Fort Worth tornado chase. Tim is singing something like "Fort Worth is in trouble"

Also, I believe in another Tim Marshall video, he refers to Bob Prentice who is very close to a developing tornado near Vernon, TX, "Now Bobby is right there....Bobby is going to get melted."

And Steve Kersh's KVII-TV's (Amarillo) tornado show in 1998, a local resident near Amarillo videoes a tornado from their house and says "It's a tornaduhh... That tornaduhh is gonna tear some s*** up!"

It sounded like a freight train.

I remember seeing a clip in a TWC tornado special (back when they still did shows that were actually in-depth),
The Chase I think it was, where Stu Ostro (at least I think that's who it was), comments "Now that sounds like a freight train" as a massive cargo train blasts past on the tracks the chase crew is parked next to.

The one that also stands out in my mind was Bob Prentice's encounter with that "big bug". That was hilarious.

BTW, that must have been one of those big, brown beetles (can't think of the actual name) that's referred to as "Texas Tree Roaches". Glad I've not seen any of those around here, as they are indeed big bugs. LOL.

I was on a tour (in my earlier years) in 2000. We were hiding underneath a gas station and the sirens were blaring. It was Des Moine, May. A few empty fast food boxes and bits of paper flew down the road and I shouted, "Debris, we have Debris".

I was not allowed to forget those words for the rest of the trip

Some other interesting quotes I just thought of also came from one of the TVC videos, recorded by a resident of (I believe) Stuart, IA.

"Whoa! Major footage! Gawd! You can hear it comin! Everbody git under sumpin!"

I loved that video. And actually I'm not so much making fun of the way the guy talked as I am trying to capture the excitement of the moment as only his exact words could do.

Also, I certainly can't argue with any of his descriptions. It was indeed "major footage".

I've seen the video twice @ storm spotter training here in central Illinois, but I've never heard who made it. This year when I go I'll see if I can't get ahold of the filmer's name.

"Thats a tornado.... look at that maw... its gettin' bigger.... wowza... that there is a tornaaaaado.... Man, lookit that maw, it's a toorrnaaaado.... Oh *&$^@ ITS COMING HERE, GET IN THE BASEMENT

All in the most hickish, Arkansas voice you can imagine. I wish I knew who made it.

Having just watched "The Dream" video from Mike Hollingshead...Pretty much all the words on the video are great. My three favorite:

May 22 Nebraska Supercell - "Holy Crap!"

May 16 Nebraska Tornado

Mike is filming from miles away....
Emergency Workers Drive up in fire truck.
Emergency Workers: "You okay?"
Mike: "Im chasing"
Emergency Workers: "You spotting?"
Mike: "Im chasing"
Emergency Workers: "Ooh..you're spotting...Okay"
Emergency Workers drive off.

Another Tornado Exchange:

Mike is filming...
Good Ol' boy in truck drives up.
Good Ol' boy: "Tornado comin you better get to shelter"
..Good Ol' boy starts to drive off...
Mike: "Yeah...I'll get to shelter" *in a sarcastic tone*
Mike continues to film for what seems like hours

heheheheh

I dont know..those exchanges just cracked me up :)
