Webcam Suggestions for Streaming?

Brandon, how are you getting 1080p out of the Lifecam Studio? For some strang reason, MS capped the resolution on the Lifecam Studio during recording at 720p. Are you using a 3rd party software to control the cam?

I noticed that the Lifecam was auto-focusing. Wouldn't that cause problems with it trying to focus on each pass of the windshield wipers?

Yes, Dave. But, you can disable the auto-focus feature in the Lifecam by launching it and going into properties. Just uncheck the auto-focus feature, apply and save. Hope that helps.

Well, for the price, I might give that a try. I have been looking at and debating getting the GoPro HERO Motorsports camera, especially since they offer an attachable rear LCD screen now.

I'm going to try streaming with the GOPRO out of my Talbotdome. You can now get video out with the latest firmware update from their website.

I'd definitely be interested to hear how that works for you. I'm not streaming this year, but I will be making some modifications to my GoPro HD to see how it works on a chase. No Talbotdome for me - I like it raw.

So, you can record to it's memory and video out simultaneously? I see it'll recharge 80% in 1 hours via USB Car/Wall Charger...I wonder if you can have it hooked into USB and keep it charged for an entire chase day without it dying.

Yep, charge via USB and video out works while recording. Even in snapshot mode.

I will say that on the recent snow storm, the cameras used have certainly been upgraded. Of course there was also likely the benefit of many of the folks in 3g (or better) areas for streaming versus the remote areas in the plains, but I was impressed with many of the streams (mostly CTV's streams). Certainly seems that folks have brought their systems up to a better level.

Thank you to those sharing their expertise and knowledge.

I had alot of trouble with my phone staying charged. Come to find out most USB ports only put out 1/2 a amp i beleive. Anyways, i added a powered hub that puts out 1 amp and it made a huge difference.

For those considering the HD LifeCam that has 1080p capabilities, Best Buy has them on sale for $30 off this week only. They run this special on the Microsoft cameras every 6-8 weeks, but I figured it was worth mentioning before the sale ends next weekend.

Forgive me for asking this prior to doing research on the camera, but when using the Microsoft Cinema webcam, does it have an auto iris feature to compensate for varying light conditions? I attempted to stream with the Microsoft Lifecam mounted in a dome on the roof last year and the sunlight was just too much for it.
