• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

WeatherScope

Some very good questions, ones that may be better answered by the folks at OCS, but I can give them a shot.

I wonder if there is a guide to making your own place files?
As far as custom placefiles, I have not tried to do that myself, but WeatherScope does allow for the generation of dynamic and static shapefiles. There's some good info in the Help about that.

is there any way to view a list of full storm attributes? If you ever used like OKFirst, you used to be able to look at it there. Or for that matter, there's a similar list in GR.
You can view storm attributes in Composite Reflectivity mode with the Inspector (Ctrl-I or Window>View Inspector), and when you mouse over a storm cell it will provide you with most of the important ones (hail size, probability, motion).

Is there a way in WeatherScope to automatically export the map created when it updates?
Not that I know of. Your best bet is to hit Ctrl-E for a quick export whenever it updates.

So being on a mac, where would i put the files that you can download for wxscope? when i open up wxscope i see two folders, a Macos folder and a resources folder.

There's a folder in your home folder called 'Weather'. That's where it keeps all its data. I need a fun project, maybe I'll work on getting APRS into it.

Has anyone gotten WeatherScope to run properly under Windows with the OU-PRIME data?
http://arrc.ou.edu/ouprime/wxscope.htm

I've seen it running just fine on someone else's computer (a Mac) but I tried this on two separate Windows 7 machines, and the OU-PRIME data causes WeatherScope to crash. I tried skipping WeatherScope and running the OU-PRIME raw netCDF files through Mc-IDAS, Panoply, and NcBrowse and they all don't know what to do with the data; apparently it's not standard NetCDF.

I'm going to write ARRC but I suspect they're just going to tell me to deal with OCS.

ARRC Radar Data is working fine for me Tim. Computer is running XP SP3, although I haven't upgraded to the latest version of Weatherscope (still using 1.7.2).

EDIT: I updated to 1.7.3 and ARRC Radar Data seems to be working fine.

OK... it works fine under 1.7.2. I guess they broke something in development work. DON'T UPGRADE!

Thanks much Adam.
