Weather channel airing movies ??

Are you kidding me..Now TWC wants to air movies ? We all know here TWC is a far cry from where it started as went from a decent source to a HGTV spinoff to Good Morning America likeness. Now movies. Apparently trying to keep the general public happy and tuned in. While Dr. Lyons , Dr. Forbes and Cantore are great to listen too its gotten to be painful even tuning in these days.
Obviously geared for the general public it seems TWC is following the way of similar stations like History airing movies to survive. I guess this was inevitable.

Ah jeez. I was already annoyed with the travel and gardening stuff but movies? That is the dumbest idea that I have heard in years. I don't care if they show The Perfect Storm, Twister or any other weather related movies. They really will become the MTV of weather. Eventually, we'll have barely weather related game shows, music videos that happen to show rain or some other weather, home shopping for weather vanes...

I did have hope for The Weather Channel with their support of VORTEX. I guess they will have to start a Weather Channel 2 to actually show weather.

I can't wait until they have special celebrity guests do the weather. Maybe they will get Lindsay Lohan to do the extended outlook assuming they aren't showing Forces of Nature.

They're gonna show "Deep Blue Sea" on the weather channel? Well, let's see, what would we rather watch, the local forecast or a 40-foot genetically modified mako shark sinking a laboratory and devouring everyone? Good god...

But when weather is less -how can one say this delicately- less 'exciting; they need something to sell advertizing. Or else they face going off the air all together. Heckuva choice for them to make; one would think they would play weather-related movies. Uhhh - come to think of it there aren't many movies that have a weather related genre.
Maybe a Disney flick?

You are my hero!!!! I LOVED that saying when I was a kid, would say it like 20 times a day :D

In regards to TWC :sigh: I just don't care anymore. When I was a kid I would look to them for the local on the 8's and that is it. The last REAL coverage I have seen from them was 1999.... when the Arkansas outbreak and May 3rd outbreak was taking place. Then I started finding sites online to get my radar (Also I live in the city with one of the best meteorologists in the world) so my dependency on TWC waned majorly. I have Direct TV at one of my houses so I never get the TRUE local on the 8's anymore. I know they did great coverage on the Wyoming tornado that I (and I am sure 95% of you) saw in person. If it is a slow night at home and they are showing a weather movie, I would probably watch it. I realized TWC turned into TEBWC (The Everything But Weather Channel) years ago.

I have fond memories of watching TWC as a child in Florida with John Hope giving hurricane updates along with great live reporting. I still do find their live reporting, but on a regular day the network serves no purpose to me.
 
Chaser 1: "The end of the The Weather Channel... it's coming!"
Chaser 2: "No.... It's already here!"
Chaser 3: "It's the Suck Zone"

Maybe the NBC and TWC executives took this report by The ONN to seriously and that is why they are starting the move away form their 24hr coverage of the weather.

 
TWC and MST3000

I like that idea of showing weather related movies and then commenting on their inaccuracies. It would be like Mystery Science Theater 3000. You could have that same look where the movie is playing on a screen in a theater and you would see Cantore, Roker and some third person who changes each week to come in, sit down and critique away. I would watch that- sometimes. Depends on what movie they show.

I agree but I still fail to see how most of their planned movie line up is related to weather.

They already do, tornado road, although I like the show. ;)
 
TWC used to have the market cornered when it comes to weather coverage. Now that they basically refuse to show anything other than mind-numbing garbage they are really going downhill fast. Wouldn't be surprised to see a different cable company make a run at the 24hr weather market. I'm sure it'd be successful, since most people would turn to that station as opposed to TWC, which had long since been forgotten for 24hr weather info.

I think even the general public is irritated with the lack of coverage of "real" weather. I've talked to many people who can be categorized as the general public, and they too laugh at how little TWC offers these days.

You'd think with people like Cantore still around things would be different. He was there pretty much from the beginning and surely remembers how much better TWC used to be. He can't honestly think today's version is even close to as good as it used to be back in the 80s and 90s. It'd be very interesting to see what he has to say about things.

A year or two ago when they first debuted their HD programming I remember being pretty impressed by it. However now they've shrunk the on-camera area and incorporated different graphics around the bottom and left sides. I guess some people may like it, but I think the full view of the on-camera area in HD was considerably better.
