Weather Alerts to a Pager

The pager is what I'm talking about. The place I went to to get a pager told me that I had two options. One, I could get a pager that had coverage out in the country, but the coverage only covered the state of Kansas. The second option was to get a pager that would get coverage nation wide, but you would only get coverage (recieve messages) when you were in or around a major city.
I just don't understand why you can't get good pager coverage like you do with a cell phone. It would be nice to have a pager that you could count on to have service in multiple states out in the middle of nowhere (basically the same kind of coverage you get with a cell phone). Isn't that possible? Do I just need to go to a different company to get a pager if I want a wider coverage area?

Yeah--pager coverage went down the crapper in the 90s as PCS took over. Skytel used to have amazing coverage. There are some satellite paging companies (or were several years ago). You might want to look into a cheap cell phone through a major network than a pager. If you're interested in a small device, I can make some good recommendations on ebay for ya. Feel free to PM me :)
