NWS shutting down OpenDAP data feeds in February 2026

The NWS announced the discontinuation of NOAA OpenDAP data feeds will take place this coming Monday (February 23):


The OpenDAP service provides access to various weather data feeds (including model data) that many providers use for displaying weather information. Alternate feeds exist, but involve a more cumbersome process downloading individual tar files that need to be unzipped and processed. OpenDAP was a fairly simple way to select and download only what you needed in the spatial and temporal realms.

Any data provider using OpenDAP will need to code a new process to use the alternate data feeds. It's unknown what the impact of this will be. The LCR server I set up a couple of years ago uses OpenDAP for its data feeds, and will have to shut down until I can cover the cost of coding for an alternate source:
