• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

I need to stay with sprint so not an option to change providers. I have the old Merlin s620, but I am looking for a newer gen, faster card. Any suggestions. Again must be with Sprint. Thanks.

Sierra Compass 597U is a great aircard. I have this card with Spirnt and it works really well. I bought a signal booster and antenna from Maximum signal.

While chasing on the road I can stream live video, run GR level 3, look over weather charts on the internet and sometimes even download Rhapsody all at the same time! I am not sure if there is a newer Sprint card that is better. You may want to go to a local Sprint dealer and find out, but I know this card is worth every penny.

Check out evdoinfo.com. Lots of reviews of Sprint equipment by folks like us, not just a company selling equipment

All Rev. A devices have the same Qualcomm chip set in them no matter who the manufacturer is so you will get the same performance out of all of them that are Rev. A. The main thing for you to look for are the other features you are looking for such as form factor i.e. USB , Express or Pcmcia . And also memory card or no memory card and GPS enabled or not .If you are buying used always get the ESN number from the seller and make sure it is clear with Sprint . Sprint will not activate a card that was originally issued by another carrier , that was lost or stolen or came from a delinquent account . All those factors can be determined from the ESN number. Good luck in your search

Like Gordon said, if your laptop has an Express Card slot you could purchase a Merlin EX720, which is the model I have. Good things have also been said about the Sierra Wireless 597E, so if you have the Express Card option definitely get a card utilizing this form factor as the PCMCIA slot will soon be a thing of the past. The bandwidth capability is much greater for Express Cards versus PCMCIA cards.

Since you likely connected this via the antenna port on the 597U, the connection port is the same as many others, right? I remember searching when I first bought mine, the Sprint site said it was a unique connector. Never followed up because I've never needed a booster or antenna. But thinking I'll get one for the plains this year, I looked again, and it looked a lot like many others.

There is a Sprint 598u by Sierra Wireless with gps on board. Fits into USB port and has external antenna port. Mine works great.
