USA Today article

Other than the use of the word "vortexes", it seems like one of the more informed articles I've read about stormchasers from the media. Not really sure what the point of it is, though.

Yet another story that makes chasing look like rainbows and lollipops. Nothing wrong with a friendly article.

Such is the state of journalism. I've resisted writing a story that addresses chasing from a realistic point of view. But with the new chasing movie coming out in a couple of months the timing is right.

Time to release the Kraken.

Warren

I guess there are two chasers named Stephen Locke. The one I know lives in Kansas City and has a real talent with photography and severe weather.

Pretty lightweight article, a lot of fluff, but I agree at least it's not critical of storm chasers (although some of the comments are...) Overly simplistic beginning with the first sentence, "The storm comes in fast..." Makes it sound like the entire storm came out of nowhere. Also they should have been able to come up with some more interesting pictures of the southeastern CO supercell of Thursday 06/05/14.

I, too, am curious (and worried!) about the new chasing movie Warren mentioned.

I saw something from Dick McGowan on Facebook about an all new second season of Tornado Chasers featuring Reed and the Dominator. I'm betting this is what Warren was talking about but I could be wrong.

Anyone wanna join me in getting plastered and going to see that gawd-awful flic just to do a Mystery Science Theater act?

Sadly, I don't think it will top Twister in terms of hilarious/useful quotes. The NSSL is predicting F5s!

Yep, I suspect that "Into the Storm" is the "new chasing movie" referenced above:

Think "Twister" done in the "found footage" style of "Cloverfield" and "Paranormal Activity"...

Follow Trey, Pete, Donk, Cheerleader, and Todd/Jock as they document broken gas lines, splintered trees, and injured people that have just lost everything! (Those are seriously the characters' credited roles).

Btw, everyone can call me "Rob/Jock" from now on.

As for the new movie coming out on August 8th, I'm already cringing. I saw an extended trailer at the movie theater yesterday and it's very much about storm chasing.

Here's an excerpt from a recent USA Today "Sneak Peek" article:

"Storm follows multiple subjects who are brought together in small-town Oklahoma on a day when the area earns its "Tornado Alley'' nickname. Callies plays a meteorologist gathering data from close-up tornado observation who has teamed up with a storm chaser (Matt Walsh) intent on getting the ultimate shot — with the help of a new tornado-proof armored vehicle named Titus."

The movie Twister ushered in leagues of eager people wanting to "chase storms", so we might want to hold on to our hats after this movie is released.
