Now that 2025 is history, the total tallies for U.S. tornadoes for the past year are now available. Note that the total from livestormchasers.com is shown as 1,598, but 1,559 is the official NWS/LSR count from the Storm Prediction Center. Using the latter, the annual 2025 tornado count was 12% higher than the 2010-2024 mean, and consistently above the mean starting in March. Five states in Tornado Alley, Dixie Alley, and the Midwest reported over 100 tornadoes each and accounted for most of the annual total. All in all, 2025 was a pretty average year for tornadoes, which may be due, in part, to the absence of tropical cyclone impacts anywhere in the CONUS. The results are shown in the attachments below:
